For ELP fans

This blew me away.

Synth sounds like a Moog too.

VERY COOL! Thanks for finding and posting Kevin.

Does anyone know if YouTube has started broadcasting BBC TV programmes yet - because if they have it means anyone in Britain who doesn’t watch TV and therefore doesn’t have a license can’t use YouTube without being fined.

I tried raising this with YouTube but couldn’t seem to get through to them about the problems we have in Britain. I’ve stopped accessing the site because of this - obviously if it’s no longer safe to watch for British people without a license I’ll fall foul of that if I log in to check if they’ve started the BBC collaboraton yet.

incredible! thnx kevin

Mindblowing! I love the way the video is broken up into two parts, too, just like the album (vinyl) version.

Wow!

Whoa! Outstanding! What a lucky school system to have a music director like that.

IMPRESSIVE! Keith must be beaming to know that piece was covered by a high school orchestra. Two knives up!

What a great piece to play for percussion ensemble! I was in percussion ensemble in jr. high.. I’ll bet they get more insterested students when they perform stuff like that..

Did anyone else hear a Zappa-esque sound to this, what with the marimbas and xylophones? I never drew a connection to the musical aspect until I heard Emerson’s music played with the acoustic percussion.

That also reminds me, a bit, of seeing ELP play this tune live back in the 70s, during the Works tour. I had heard the tune more than a few times–but that moment when Greg Lake played that guitar solo and then played the melody line was such a thrill–the whole show was a psychedelic experience in more ways than one!

Don’t you just love a music director with VISION!!! My son had such a teacher in high school, and what a differance it has made in his life.

Hats off to this teacher.

My GAWD…Moogs, ELP… I would have been a “band geek” if we had a teacher like this at my high school.

Very inspiring.

Well, now from what’s been posted here I can work out what they were doing with the music, sort of. What piece did they play?

It’s Karn Evil 9 parts 1 & 2.
Mostly mallet percussion, but also guitar, synth, horns, vocals, etc.
Done very accurately and pretty much note for note.

Fwiw, I use a Mac OSX app called Get Tube to download You Tube videos.
I saved these videos to my harddrive, but it’d be about 130 meg upload to help you view them this way.

Thanks, that sounds interesting. I had a suspicion it might be that.

The problem with YouTube isn’t viewing the videos - it’s falling foul of the laws on TV transmissions in Britain, now that YouTube has done a deal with the BBC (see my earlier post). As soon as YouTube starts broadcasting BBC stuff by agreement with them I won’t be able to log in there, and nor will anyone else in Britain without a license, without risking fines unless we pay the government about £130 a year. As YouTube can’t (or won’t) understand the issue and don’t seem to want to talk about it, I have no idea what stage this deal is up to.

Actually it’s Karn Evil 9 Part 1-A (the end of side 1 of the record )and Part 1-B ( beginning of side 2 )

Part 2 is the piano movement.

My hugest apologies for this grievous error.

It’s the 1st and 2nd IMPRESSION, not 1st and 2nd PART.

Glad you liked the performance as much as my errors

Actually on the original vinyl release (at least mine on the Vinyl its self) it’s labeled as 1st Impression Par1 one ( on side one) then on side two 1st Impression Part 2. On the CD with the interviews it’s listed as 1st Impression Part1, 1st Impression Part2.

On the Dolby 5.1(DVD Audio) release it’s also labled this way.

Not sure why it’s still this way on “new” releases other than people have gotten used to it that way

Maybe on some release it was labeled as A/B, but all of the BSS copies I have, have it as 1 and 2  All then have 2nd Impression and 3rd Impression

What was kind of funny, the original CD release of BSS back in the early 80’s had the side break just like the LP  , releases after that had no break
