First ever Reggae-hit to feature a Moog modular

This is my first post on this forum so I thought I’d start saying Hello to you all.

Johnny Nash’s hit “I can See Clearly Now” was recorded way back in 1972 and I’ve a feeling it’s the first ever reggae-influenced hit to feature a Moog modular synthesizer:

What do you think?

Welcome to the forum.

It could very well be a Modular. It sounds like the same type of tones that Mort Garson was getting, which makes me think theres more going on there than for it to be a Mini.

Done in 72 so it could be.

I would have never noticed that before. Thanks for pointing that out.

Eric

Thanks for the welcome

It is a Moog modular (the one at Air Studios). Francis Monkman (Curved Air, SKY etc.) confirmed it for me recently. Apparently it took an age to build up the rhythm chords. Francis played the bass guitar as well.

I did read some things, one article said that it was the Wailers that played that song, Bob wrote it. Another article that I read said that average white band played the music on that track.

Peter Tosh did use a Minimoog.

Yes, there’s a lot of contradicting info on this out there,

Anyway, I just heard back from Francis again and he didn’t remember
anyone else at the sessions apart from Johnny and the Air (studios)
engineers.
Air Studios was apparently co-owned by George Martin so it’s possible the Moog modular was his instrument.

is this micke from other forums around the net? Welcome!

Yep, that’s me alright!

Thanks for the welcome, Amos
