Can someone explain how Sub37 envelope sync and the arpeggiator clock work together? I’m having trouble setting, for example, AMP EG CLOCK DIV so that the envelope loops once for every arpeggiator clock division. Changing the setting while I have a sound running changes the loop rate, but it seems to have no relation to the arpeggiator rate, and changing the rate with the Decay knob seems to have the same effect regardless of Sync being selected or not. Maybe I’m missing a setting?
I’m not near a SUB 37 right now, so forgive me if I don’t describe something perfectly.
I believe your issues come from confusing (or mentally merging) two separate Envelope features: SYNC and LOOP
When the SYNC button is lit, it only means that the envelope will be retriggered at the selected unit of the beat of the Arpeggiator’s clock.
The envelope’s time values will not be modified in any way. The envelope will simply retrigger from where it’s currently at each time the unit of the beat happens.
When the LOOP button is lit, the only thing it means is that the envelope will repeat after finishing all of its segments.
The time values of the envelope segments are not modified in any way from the Arpeggiator’s clock.
What I believe you’re expecting is that the envelope’s time values will be modified such that the envelope loops at in a way that synchronizes with the Arp’s clock.
Even if you light both the SYNC and LOOP buttons, it will only result in both of the above behaviors acting simultaneously:
If the SYNC retriggers sooner that the LOOP time, you won’t notice the LOOP.
If the LOOP retriggers sooner than the SYNC time, you’ll hear the LOOP repeat but then the SYNC will eventually make it retrigger, regardless of where it is in the LOOP.
Thanks! Great explanation. I understand now.
My Sub37 is away with headphone jack problems at the moment. I’ll try out my new knowledge when it gets back.
