Envelope Filter tech question help

Hello there,
I have this question:
which way an guitar signal could trigger the envelope in the moog filter pedal? Has it an envelope follower?
I gues this could be also with a vocal or drum signal.
Has it any sensitivity about when to trigger?
Any help? MC? Kevin?
Thanks!
Nick

Hey Nick, the 101 has an envelope follower and not an envelope generator so there’s not anything that a signal needs to trigger. The envelope follower will ‘follow’ the volume contour of whatever signal (guitar, drum, vocal, whatever) the pedal is processing.

Thanks a lot,
I guess that there is an other way to connect an envelope filter after this.
Does the filter be triggered in a synth which has an external input?
(As the original Mini/Voyager/Phatty)
Thanks again and soory for the bad English
Nick

If I understand correctly, you are asking if the MF-101 can be used to trigger the envelopes of another synth. The 101 does not have a gate output, but the envelope output can be used as a gate with decent results.

The envelope output can also be used to control the filter or pitch or whatever of a synth with CV inputs.

Am I answering what you are asking?

Thanks both for the answer:
So the input goes to the envelope follower and this triggers the filter and then you could assign the envelope to the filter (if we talk about a modular synth)
but I guess that, in a synth with external input, ( like the mini/voyager/phatty) there’s no envelope follower, right ?
Thanks-Nick

“So the input goes to the envelope follower and this triggers the filter…”

An envelope follower tracks the level of the input and outputs a CV signal equal or proportional to the input level. Not sure what you mean by “trigger the filter,” a filter is always active.

“and then you could assign the envelope to the filter (if we talk about a modular synth)”

Any CV source, including envelopes, can be assigned to the filter cutoff.

“but I guess that, in a synth with external input, ( like the mini/voyager/phatty) there’s no envelope follower, right ?”

Those 3 synths don’t have envelpoe followers, but others may.

By “triggers the filter” I think he means the controls the cutoff of the MF-101’s filter.

The mini/voyager/LP don’t have envelope follower circuits, but you can use the envelope output of the 101 to trigger the envelope generators of the Voyager (does the LP have a gate input?) or as a control voltage for input CV parameter on one of these synths.
