drive level on loop?

I’ve been fooling around with my mix out/filt in loop and a MF-102 ring mod for my voyager.
I noticed that when i plug it in, if the drive is at 0 there is a SIGNIFICANT gain reduction. When i try to bring the drive up to meet the gain level of how it sounds with nothing plugged into the loop, the signal goes red long before i hit that level.
I’m just wondering what the best way to run this is through the I/O loop.

Weird. What happens if you hit the Bypass button on the RM with it in the loop? Although all of the 'Foogers seem to exhibit a bit of gain reduction, you should be able to get a pretty good signal level through the Mix/Out loop with any of them.

I’d suggest trying the Mix/Out loop with another pedal to confirm that it’s not your insert cable. Also, try plugging/unplugging the Mix/Out loop jack a few times, just in case there’s some corrosion on the jack that’s killing your signal.

Concerning the RM itself, does it work properly if you plug in one of the Voyager outputs? Have you tried it with any other signal sources?

I have tried a few different cables and the result is the same.
As a test to be sure i ‘looped back’ the mixout/filtin cable to itself and it maintains the same gain level, but when it is looped through the RM or my mooger LP filter it seems to drop the gain to about half what it should be with the drive at 0.

bypass makes no difference on either pedal.

I have tried fiddling with the drive to get the gain up to the levels they are supposed to be at, but when i get it close to the right level it introduces alot of clipping.

I’m pretty sure its nothing ‘wrong’ with any of my gear since the problem is consistant with both my mooger pedals.
You can probably hear the same thing im talking about. run a patch through a mooger using the mixout/filtin and compare the sound levels to the way it sound with NOTHING plugged into your loop.
The gain difference is huge.

oh yeah, another thing i tried was running the mixout/filtin through my MS20 and the gain levels are fine on that. Must be something specific to the mooger pedals
