Desktop version of the Sub Phatty?

Would Moog consider releasing a desktop version of the Sub Phatty (a ‘Slim Sub’) ?

As a gigging musician I have no use of a 2 octave keyboard, it’s too narrow to play a bass or a lead and it’s too cumbersome to sit conveniently on the panel of another synth used as a master keyboard.

I never understood the 2 octaves thing. A rack is another thing, desirable for many, I’ll grant you that. Not a midi fan, bring me something 49+, with real pots and no firmware. I can always dream, but the OS was not a success from the sales point of view. Oh well, I moved just in time.

+1 for Slim Sub Phatty!

I would LOVE to see a desktop version of the Sub Phatty.

I actually dislike the idea of a Sub Phatty Rack, but i would like a 37 key version of it.

Ditto.

^ That would kill the Little Phatty.

I’d love a desktop version. I’ve too many keyboards already.

Then again, I just saw how many of the “hidden” functions require keys to change programming. Though I’d imagine that could all be done with a remote MIDI keyboard too.

But yeah, it is screaming out for something a bit more luxurious than a mere two octaves. I control my Minibrute all the time with the five octaves of a DX7 and it just feels so much more fluid to not have to hit the octave switches constantly.

c´mon guys, give Moog Music a break so they could focus in what we REALLY want: the poly-phatty!

If Moog won´t do it…i am sure Korg will do something…rumours say that Arturia has something more analog up their sleeve also for 2014…

On a french forum, Yves Yusson and Artusira declared a while ago that a “bigger” version of the Minibrute was though about.
However “bigger” meant “with more keys” rather than “with more voices” IIRC. But let’s see

indeed…they´re getting very deep into analog products development
although I love the polysix and mono/poly I´d love to see them create something new with the classic analog korg sound but not just a re-edition…I think the volca series is a step in the right direction but also a more featured and “serious” product would be great in both polysynth and groovebox formats

oh, great news! I would be very dissapointed if them release a minibrute with just a bigger keyboard and some other minor change instead of 4 voice polyphony or something

Moog, korg and Arturia got the opportunity to join DSI in the polysynth side of the market and give us alternatives to the prophet and mopho range (that I found bad-sounding and unappealing…very personal and subjetive, others could disagree)

DSI Synths are great sounding! But not for bass sounds. For that the Mophos and Prophets simply have no balls at all.

They could call it the 12" Sub. :stuck_out_tongue: 25 keys is kind of limiting, even for mono lead and bass work. Octave shift keys won’t do me much good if I want to bounce between notes in a 3 octave range in rapid succession. Then again, it’s not like I don’t have other boards for that. Some larger keyboards it’d fit on top of. The Akai AX-73 comes to mind at the moment.

if you think you need more than 2 octaves for basslines then you´re doing something wrong…
or you are like this 6-strings bass guitar players…you are simply showing off

When I’m doing strictly bass I like to extend out over a 3 octave range and use the third octave as accent notes. I like really intricate bass-lines, and to do such it takes both bands. Aside from that 2 octaves would be fine, as I’d just be using my left hand to play simpler bass parts. Though with playing lead 3 octaves is really needed, but careful use of the octave buttons takes care of it. Though if my left hand is already occupied with playing bass, then I have a problem. Again, I already have 4 other boards with 61 keys. Not the total end of the world. I find the 1 less octave a fair enough trade out for all of the hands on control you get.

+1 for Desktop version

If (or when) a desktop/rackmount version of the Sub Phatty surfaces will be far from this point in time. Consider Moog’s release sequences for other desktop/rackmount versions of their hardware and you’ll notice a faint pattern, albeit not quite consistent.

My four string basses cover three octaves

You only get two octaves on the SubP going from C to C. What if you’re playing in other keys?
