Cleaning the voyager.

In the manual, it says that to do any cleaning, you should just use a damp rag, and on the wood maybe some guitar polish. I was wondering if anyone would know if there would be a problem with using isopropyl rubbing alcohol on the keys? thanks for any answers.

If the Voyager keys are like the Little Phatty keys, 70% isopropyl alcohol should be fine. I use it on my LP’s keys.

What is the reason for using alcohol to clean the keys? Why not just a gentle cleaner whenever needed?

I use alcohol to get miscellaneous green spots off the keys. The green spots are from my fingernail occasionally scraping the housing of my ribbon controller. As humid as it is in my room, the stuff sticks to the keys.

Being a nurse, I have lots and lots of alcohol pads handy. One swipe, and the green spots are gone.

I would appreciate it, if you play with my voyager for several hours. I have the green backlight and i like everything that’s green! Green keys would kick ass! Funky!

Come to think of it, green keys would be simply amazing! Even more so would be green backlit keys. Thanks for the awesome idea psicolor!

Thanks alot for the input, Voltor.
mayidunk: my keys get dirty/greasey/sweaty with use over time and I don’t happen to have any cleaning stuff besides windex, wood polish, and alcohol so I figured I’d ask.

That’s what I’m here for. You are most welcome.

You all may be horrified, but I let my filthy 8 month old daughter whack away at my Voyager. It’s going through the dishwasher right now.

Mos Fet, the Voyager is handwash only. You’ll make the wood into driftwood.

Swiffer dusters work great too.

For dust, I like those polyester fiber thingies that look like giant caterpillars on a stick.

I too have one of them caterpillars, and it works great!

Thanks for the answer about the alcohol, I was thinking that with the keys being plastic, the alcohol might attack the finish. It’s good to know that that is not the case.

70% isopropyl works fine as long as you wipe it off right away, and don’t let it air dry. Air drying causes streaking, which causes loss of shinyness.
