I was wondering, if someone makes a breath controller that would allow me (with the help of CP-251) to control volume of my LP (via CV) by “blowing” into some kind of tube. I play some melodica and love the articullation of a wind instrument and would like to have it in a synth. Any ideas? DIY ideas also appreciated.
Occasionally you can find a Crumar Steiner Master’s Touch on eBay at a pretty reasonable cost. In addition to breath, there is a tube for modulation, a pressure pad, several CV outputs, and a Steiner resonant filter as well.

Also, you could use MIDI with a Yamaha BC-3 into a MIDI Solutions Breath Controller converter box (still available) or a Kurzweil Expressionmate (eBay).

There are air and gas pressure sensors available that are very small and can put out a proportional voltage from 1-100psi.

With something like this above, it would only take an opamp amplifier and some power to deliver a usable CV for synths.
just get one of these. ![]()
It’s a SAXOPHONE!
I like it!
I sure wish I’d gotten a Yamaha BC3A before Yamaha discontinued this product. I saw on sale today on ebay for an outrageous price.
I read that Nick Batzdorf is developing a breath controller but cannot find any recent update on that.
Meanwhile this company is now making and selling a breath control to USB MIDI controller:

Without further hardware modification this device, you would need a computer to output the MIDI to your Little Phatty MIDI In. If you want breath control over CV, I suspect you will need to run software like Silent Way on on the computer and a compatible audio interface to output the CV. Either way, a computer is required, unless there is a possibility of a hardware hack.
I’ve instead gone down the route of using an EP-2 pedal for continuous CV control over volume on my Voyager, but am always interested in better news on the breath controller front.
you can use this product with analog devices too you can see the details on our web page http://www.mrtaudio.com on the other hand you may need to do some adjustments on jack out put connection this device works 0to 5v volt range if your device have midi in you can use direct midi converter box mrtaudio
