Alt-Click default values are inconsistent

Sorry, no major finding yet…

The default values for all KB Track parameters should be 1:1 / ~8192
LFO1/2 KB Track: Default value is 0
Filter KB Track: Default value is 4096
Envelopes KB Track: Default value is 0

Wave 1 default is 6025
Wave 2 default is 5337
…is this on purpose?
An advanced solution for the Waveform defaults could be to use Alt-Click to alternately switch between the pure saw and pure symmetric rectangle positions.

Filter vel amount: default is 2048
Amp vel amount: default is 4096
…are these on purpose?

Mixer OSC defaults:
OSC1: default is 8192
Sub Osc: default is 0
OSC2: default is 0
Since the “0” value is always easy to reach, i would prefer all mixer osc defaults to be 8192 like OSC1.

I agree. Filter Keyb track should be 1:1 (8192)

A few thoughts on this:

First, the origin of the values used for editor defaults is the Sub 37 “Init Preset”. It’s quite possible that some of these values are not ideal for initializing the editor; for example the KB Tracking for LFOs is zero on this preset (Init preset doesn’t have keyboard-tracking LFOs). Calling up an “Init Preset” is a bit different in practice than “setting the default value for a specific control”.

Indeed if double-clicking on any KB Tracking parameter, I’d probably rather it snap to 1:1.

Regarding the oscillators… the slightly-different default Wave values are intentional, again with respect to the Init preset… these values were adjusted by ear (on one unit) to sound nice, and ever-so-slightly different from one another. These values aren’t intended to correspond exactly to an ideal waveform. In fact the numerical value corresponding exactly to the most-perfect sawtooth or square wave may be slightly different unit to unit (although not by a lot).

Mixer level: 8192 is just “halfway” – this again is not necessarily an ideal signal level. In fact by the halfway point, the mixer may already be starting to saturate/overdrive the filter, making the oscillator sound warmer and tubbier than it would if it wasn’t driven… for “pure” sounds, I get better results with the mixer set lower (between 2 and 3 on the knob).

Thanks very much for the feedback; we’ll discuss the possibility of changes here… at minimum it seems setting all the KB Track settings to 1:1 on double-click would be quite useful…

kind regards,
