a sampler for my Vger

Hi all - I need some advice…

I’m interested in getting a sampler to sample my Vger.
What I need:

-high quality - need something that supports high sample rates
-stereo multi-layer polyphonic programs
-drum map type patches (but not for percussion sounds)
-don’t really need effects or things like built-in filters (I have MF’s and other things for that)
-the ability to do non-equal tempered tunings would be great but not a requirement
-can be a keyboard or rack module

i’ve been using a software sampler for a while (Reason), but I dont’ really want to keep taking my iBook to every gig. the last hardware sampler I used was some old akai something or other that used quik-disks! it was kind of like an ensoniq mirage… yeah… i’m old.

should i look for new or used? any suggestions?

thanks!

Will

If you want high sample rate, usb, and large amounts of ram in a hardware sampler your only choice right now really is the Akai Z4, Z8 or MPC4000. These are all 24 bit and go up to 96k Sample rate, 512 mb ram, and have all the other features a modern sampler should feature. USB connectivity is included allowing you to interface with your computer.
Otherwise, I would go with a sampler plugin like NI Kontakt, Motu Mach5, or emagic exs24 (if you own logic). I guess you could also look into using that new Emu sampler for the computer, which may be pretty cool. Never used it, but EMU definetely was my sampler of choice back in the day. Sadly, you have to install a bunch of cards into your computer to use their new system.
Those are really your only options.

I’m also looking for a sampler of this sort but those mentioned in the post right above are way out of my price range. I was looking into the Roland SP 808 but how would I go about hooking up the Voyager to this? (This is all very new to me still.) I also want to be able to record sounds from out doors. Should I look into a seperate device for this can most samplers do this with a mic? TIA

As far as soft samplers nothing beats the MOTU Mach 5. High sample rates supported. Mac/Win RTAS, MAS, AU, and it now supports Hardrive Streaming.
Look into it.
