I have always liked Peter Gabriels use of synth pads and soundscapes, particularly on his soundtrack CD’s.
Right now I am looking for a song that I heard a number of years ago, but I cannot find it on any of the CD’s that I have been able to listen to–maybe some of the people on this forum can help.
As I said, this got some radio play a few years ago (maybe 5 or 6 years ago–time flies so quickly). All I can remember about the song is that it has a heavily distorted keyboard sound. I don’t remember if the keyboard was organ or synth…but it is distorted–kind of like when you run a guitar through an amp and crank it up. I liked the song the first few times that I heard it, but it didn’t get enough air play for me to really get to know it.
I could be wrong on this, but I thought that the announcer had mentioned that the song had something to do with Princess Diana–a tribute or something. I could be way off on this, however.
Any help here is appreciated.
Have a great Thanksgiving to all of you in the US of A.
You know how it is when you listen to the radio when working. You aren’t paying full attention to the DJ when he talks about a song, and aren’t really even paying attention to the song at the beginning… Then you hear a line that hooks you and the song grabs your full attention, but usually it is too late to get any info about it.
I KNOW that it was by Peter Gabriel (but maybe during his Genesis years–the DJ did not say that, however). I got the IMPRESSION that it was a new song at the time, and that it was a tribute song to Princess Dianna in some fashion.
Well, I couldn’t find the song on anything but the Princess Dianna Tribute CD, so I broke down and purchased it.
Actually, it is a great CD with quite an eclectic mix of different songs and artists. I am glad that I purchased it. Probably not a favorite of the younger, headbanger crowd, but a nice background CD for work, the car, etc.
IN THE SUN is definitely the song that I was looking for.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction, Pink!
