108M or 102 and 103

Im on my way to buy new moogerfoger for the SlimPhatty Poly Chain. At now times theres MF-104M only. And I want to get a flanger.
MF-108M is really good, but i don`t need a chorus. Maybe it will be better to get MF-103 for phaser (instead of flanger) and MF-102 for some extra experiments?

[EDIT: it turned out the original poster would not mind replacing th flanger by a phaser]

Anyone correct me, since I have never tried one, but I think a 103 won’t “flange”.
Unless you are looking for any modulation effect or especially MoogerFoogers (no matter which ones), you may want to check others brands’ flangers out.

Oh. i`m sorry! I corrected the previous message

Makes more sense to me now

English is not my native language, too focused on the translation, and forget about the meaning of message.

No no, you got yourself clearly understood, no problem
I was talking about “replacing a flanger by a phaser” vs. “prefering having a phaser rather than a flanger”. I thought either you were not aware of the sonic differences or you did not care about having one or the other.

Regarding the topic, I cannot speak about the 102 and 103 since I haven’t used them. I think I’d prefer having two Foogers rather than one expensive which I use half the way only. Because it’s fun to have them connected.

Electro Harmonix makes some good flangers that are cheaper than the cluster flux, and those work with moog very well.

THe 108 was too noisy for me, but capable of very interesting soundscapes. The 102 and 103 combo is great sonically and will make available some nice CV outs for the SP poly chain. After that, the CP 251 will really expand the modulation you are able to do, creating a very nice system.

I like EHX. They’ve been quite inventive. Amazingly, they don’t seem to have any CV’d flanger, but the Flange Hoax or the PolyChorus certainly can achieve a wide variety of effects.

Sorry, Im thinking about moog only. I dont need cheaper. I need another moogerfooger

Me too.

Yes, right. But I think that Cluster Flux has a very interesting modulation capabilities. Or am I confused?

Exactly! Just for that, of course, i will buy a second CP-251.

Doesn’t the 102 or 103 have an LFO output?.. which the ClusterFlux doesn’t have.

The Cluster Flux’s modulation will only affect the Cluster Flux because it has no CV outputs. The 102, 103, and CP will provide a host of modulation capabilities to the slim phatty chain.

The 103 flanges quite well in fact, if you compare it to the sound of other flangers. With loads of LFO and the slowest setting you can acheive “jet plane” and “stretching a balloon” type textures. The ability to add as second LFO really compounds the ability to sculpt a sound texture. It’s a drag that the main LFO is fixed . .. yet it’s quite a useful sound.

The Cluster Flux adds a lot, but you really have to watch your “amount” “mix” “feedback” and “time” settings because you can really make it into a noise maker. The new 104m Delay makes an excellent chorus as has been stated over and over. It doesn’t seem to have the noise issues except with very long delays. I think the noise factor with the 108m that is complained about so much is due to the chips they selected . . . but I think they chose these chips because they are capable of self-oscillation. I didn’t think there was any flanger pedal as deep as the 108m until I acquired a Subdecay Starlight DLX which is my primary modulator these days. I highly recommend it.

not much of help for which fooger, just a request for some demos of your poly phatty set up. sounds like it will be pretty incredible. How many slimphatties are you using?

I use their Quasar DLX phaser: very cool effect as well. They have been developing a base for great LFO capabilities, hence making their modulation effects quite impressive.

Last month I did an impro with friends, a bit experimental. I routed a simple noise in to it with the triangle-square combination LFO waveform… vey, very cool background rythmic patterns!

Plus I like its violet dress in my pedal board

Thank you all! My choice for now is 102+103+CP251. I guess it will be very interesting

3 SPs in a rack, you can see my gear in the signature.
I`ll try to film a demo next week. I will try. Yes.

It’s me again, and a new question:
102 or 107 for SP PolyChain?

Aghhhrrr, so hard to choose, i want both!

Buy both, you’ll thank me later.
