105M : MIDI MuRF (Amazing for dub techno)

OK, so I bought the MIDI MuRF this week after playing with one at the Moog factory in Asheville. It arrived at my house just two days ago.. I played with it for a few hours & I honestly wasn’t all that impressed initially. Today, same thing. However, just a few moments ago I hooked up the pattern editor and slowed the rate way down and ran a dub chord stab through the MuRF…

Wow.

This thing is absolutely incredible when used at a much lower Rate… I am so happy I bought this Moogerfooger over the other ones.. it does what I had hoped it would.

It’s going to take a bit of time for me to wrap my head around this thing, but so far it is delivering.

Incredible for dub techno stabs .. gives a track so much more character and depth when you run the stabs through a box like this!

Anyway, onward and forward.. just wanted to post how much I love this box.

I found the same thing a few months ago after thinking it was just a one trick pony. Amazing things can happen when you slow down your Rate on the MidiMurf.

Something else to try (if you play guitar or bass and have a Freqbox or Low pass Filter) is to use it purely for the envelope follower and take the ENV output and plug it into the MuRF’s RATE CV.

As you play harder or softly with a given attach/release (gain withstanding), you’ll have the steps ramp up in speed then down and I’ve always like the patterns with vocal qualities to them (typically beyond 12 o’clock on the envelope dial).

I go through a lot of gear and not everything sticks regardless of how great it might be; I’ve had and sold the Ring Mod, the Cluster Flux, and Freq box, but the Delay, Low Pass Filter and MuRF seem to be keepers.

It really depends on what you’re running through them that determines what constitutes a ‘keeper’. I’m running my entire modular synth through my Fooger jungle. For me it’s more a matter of ‘which Foogers should I get two or three of?’

There’s no one Fooger that I’d like to be without, though the 101 Low Pass Filter is my least used one. Probably because I have so many other filter choices on my modular.
