I just realized that you actually can order the new digi board with instructions on how to install it. It's an upgrade from 128 patch slots to 896, so it's not just a possible fix for my issue, but a nice functional upgrade. Not too expensive either, $265.
But I'd really like to get hold of an ...

Re: A trick to make the Voyager sound better
Hey, I just went back and checked and actually, the crackling is present at the insert point too.
So it seems, the fault must lie earlier in the signal chain than I thought.
Also, I get the crackling even with no oscillators on, it's enough to turn up the external input level. No need to actually ...

Re: A trick to make the Voyager sound better
Just so to be clear, I have no idea if U49 is the IC that was replaced MotneN. The 837 is designed for audio and should be fine. I do not know if earlier voyagers used different IC's and were later changed to the 837, but if your's has the 837 in it already, I'd suggest leaving it, unless it is bad ...

Re: A trick to make the Voyager sound better
The TLO74 seems to be the op-amp of choice for at least a few of the modular system makers I'm familiar with. I have a Synthesizers.com system that includes modules from them and from SSL, and both manufacturers use the TLO74CN in a lot of designs.

Re: A trick to make the Voyager sound better
Oh, and there a few variations of the TL074 op amp, usually designated by additional letters, like TL074A, TL074ACN etc. Do you know which one you have?
No ..i cant remember which one it was.. but i can ask my friend.
he told me that he bought some other ones, that we also could try..

Re: A trick to make the Voyager sound better
I cant tell you if it´s the same in all Voyagers..MC wrote:LM324? No wonder the new one sounded better, those LM324s weren't designed for audio!
(Adds Voyager opamp inspection on to-do list for bench)
but if its the same in yours.. change it quick.. and get a grin on your face

Re: A trick to make the Voyager sound better
It could be that changing the op amps for the headphone output results in an improvement in the stock sound of the phones but that shouldn't affect the normal outs of the voyager, right?
Also it sounds like your headphone outs may not have worked correctly to begin with. It's entirely possible ...

Re: A trick to make the Voyager sound better
That's nice if your Voyager sounds now as you like. My Voyager's in original condition, and what can I say: It doesn't sounds great, it sounds amazing :D
Taste is different I think. But it's interesting what people do to perfect their gear, I always like to read about. Thanks for sharing your ...
