Re: upgrading the OS / sending sysex with linux

Hmm, well certainly there must be some upper limit.

Nonetheless, my assessment that the Voyager couldn't keep up is based on the SS sending bar reaching 100% at the same time the Voyager receiving bar receiving bar showed about 70%, right before switching to the error message. And, of course ...

upgrading the OS / sending sysex with linux

I don't know if this has been covered here. I couldn't find any guidance, so I thought I'd share.

I just updated my Voyager from OS 3.3 to 3.5 using linux--ubuntu 10.04 to be exact. I followed the Moog provided instructions and used Simple Sysexxer to send the sysex files.

When I first tried, SS ...

In my experience, the velocity really comes in when you are doing fast phrases. THe keys go down faster with no more pressure or heavyhandedness. Of corse I think you already know the difference, but when I first thought of velocity I thought the ony way to do it is to hit the keys harder.

High ...

Sorry, I overlooked that you have an OS.

I don't have a VX-351, so I can't try this. But I think it might work to connect the velocity out CV from a VX-351 to the (master?) volume input on the back.

No. If I wanted to program synths on my computer I wouldn't bother with such expensive hardware.

I don't get why people are obsessed with a polyphonic Moog. If you're going to stack several notes on top of each other, you need a relatively plain sounding patch. Otherwise it just sounds noisy. Any of the DSI polysynths do plain sounding analog patches just fine and for much less than a discrete ...

Because the amount knob on the second modulation bus is still turned up?

What I'm really looking for is piano-like dynamic volume control with keyboard velocity. If you know of a better way to achieve this, I'm all ears.

I'm using a MIDI sequencer to play notes with increasing velocity just to further test the Amounts of 50% vs. 100% with Pot Mapping of attack velocity ...

Hmm, setting to 50% allows the Master Volume knob to control the max volume, but the min velocity doesn't map to silence anymore. I get sound no matter how softly I press.

Hi, I'm wanting to use velocity to control volume dynamics, i.e., just like one would when playing piano.

I'm trying to use the Pot Mapping method described above, except that I set the destination to Master Volume. The odd thing to me though is that I can't adjust the master volume with the knob ...
