That is a really interesting remark! I wasn't aware of this possibility ....... which will work only if the mechanical arrangement of the individual switch will allow for it!

I love things like that! These hardware quirks work only with old analog gear .......... this specific example is a bit ...

And another mod for the Prodigy - this time it's a VCA-hold function:

I hope it's of use - but then there's more to come ........

For info: Matthias just posted my next contribution to the collection of mods for the Prodigy; see:

http://www.javaworks.de/page13/page44/p ... age46.html

This one is a switchable range-extension of the LFO frequency.

Hope it's of use!

Hello Eric,

in case you haven't found the mod on

http://www.javaworks.de/page13/page44/page44.html

click on "enjoy" or on "Prodigy Mods" at the bottom end of the list on the left-hand side of the page", or go to

http://www.javaworks.de/page13/page44/page45/page45.html

I hope the desrciption ...

Dear Eric (and everybody else who is interested!),

as promised, I have started to put together some info on mods I have done in the past on my Prodigy. The first results can be seen here (a friend has kindly agreed to post the info on his website since I don't have one of my own):

Riiiight! I didn't read well enough either - you did write "SOURCE"!

One more "thumbs up" for the Source, then! ......... hm ..... one needs a lot of hands for all the "thumbs up" the Source is getting

I learned something today - very good!

Take care,

One of my favourite S&H-applications is to get a softly chnaging CV - which is quite the opposite of the typical "stepping"-mod most S&H's are used for.

What I do for example is use the LFO in the CP-251 to trigger the S&H and feed into the S&H the noise source so that I get a true random S&H ...

hm .... just as a afterthought to my last post:

The Rogue technical service information issues in 1981 by Moog Music Inc.Co. specifies the bend range to 1/- 7 semitones. This would imply that at least the factory issue Rogues indeed had a bend range of much less than +/- an Octave. Which doesn't ...

@ writeroxie:
thanks for correcting me - since you have the Rogue there you are the one to judge this! I just don't remember any of the Moogs I owned in the past (Prodigy, Rogue, Multimoog) to have that kind of bend range ...... I apologise very much if I have disseminated incorrect info!

Hello there x tudis,

Pitch wheels on the old Moog synths were never originally designed to cover a really huge frequency range - I don't remember getting an octave out of any of them. But since the circuits are relatively simple analog circuitry (much of it discrete elements), they can be modified ...

The reason why there is rarely a modulation input for the LFO frequency is because only on really comprehensive modular synths the LFO frequency is actually controlled by a voltage. In the Prodigy this frequency is defined by the value of a resistor (the modulation rate pot) and the value of a ...

Dear Eric,

thanks to a friend I could trace some of the modifications I made to the Prodigy way back in the 80's. Unfortunately, the schematics - while really simple - are not in a state where I can just scan them. I will have to re-draw some of them, which I will do soon.

What I can already tell ...

It remains difficult to diagnose the problem from afar. If there is so little change with a control change on the 101, I would suggest it's some kind of oscillation problem which could be due to a connection issue or to a power supply problem and further aggrevated by grounding problems. I am not ...

Hello Eric,

I am very gratified by your positive response regarding the mods! I, too, feel that a good mod can add a lot of value to the synth (or to any instrument - but then even touching the circuit in a vintage guitar with a soldering iron appears to cut its value in half these days :wink ...

Dear Eric,

I bought a Prodigy when it was still a fresh product in 1981 (I think .... this really LONG ago  ) and modified it quite extensively by adding:

- Osc & Filter CV inputs, Trigger In/Out (the latzer version of the Prodigy had these factory fitted
- Noise Generator with "white/pink ...
