All analog ring modulators have some carrier bleedthrough.
Yes, but in this case there should be no longer any carrier signal at the ringmod input.

(A jack is plugged into CARRIER IN socket ; so the internal carrier should be disconnected)

MF-102 RM : Carrier Bleeding Trough ?

Hi,

I've read the procedure in Lord of Modulator to minimize original tones bleeding through.

I didn't open the pedal to trim VR1 as I don't hear "when a short note is played, the carrier die out about two or three seconds later."
So I guess VR1 is correctly trimmed ?!

Now, when I put a jack in ...

There was no scoop in fact : I've just realized it was explained page4 in "Lord of the Ring(Modulation)"

I guess that everybody talks about sine waves (as carrier and modulator signals) because of the mathematical theory of ring modulation...the sum, the difference, and all that boring stuff ...

MF-102 Ring Modulator : Pedal or Synth ?

I've got a BigBriar MF-102 and found it to be a little smashing SciFi effects box when Carrier is plugged into AUDIO IN.

Here's a Triangle waveform (audio IN) modulated with TRIANGLE then SINE wave (carrier IN)

No big difference in this case.

As carriers, SAW and SQUARE waves has differenteffect...

MF-102 Waveforms

btw, the lfo is a triangle and not a sine as stated in the manual and printed on the unit

The carrier is a sine wave that does low frequencies to higher frequencies (0.6 to 4000 Hz).

There is no sine wave in the Ring Modulator.

As stated, MF-102 LFO outputs "perfectly zero-centered" 2 Volt ...

vintage MF...

the filter itself is not as colorful as I would like. It's OK, it's good, but, to me, it doesn't sound like a Mini filter, or any vintage Moog filter for that matter.

I'd like to know what the core of MF-101 is based on.

I'm afraid no more nowadays-synth will react as a vintage moog did

Still ...

damaging the moogerfooger !?

revstate wrote:how much can you overdrive the murf or any other fooger without damaging the unit ??
Moogerfooger can "handle" 10Volt PP signals, as in most modular systems, in a very distortred way !

No hurt.

Balanced connctions are for professionnal applications (long cable, shield...)

I don't know any FX pedal with balanced audio.
There's no link between connection type and audio quality.

CONTROL Inputs use TRS jacks (signal/+5.7V/ground) but are not balanced (of course)
