Re: Moog MG-1 Rot
I'd heard a lot of the infamous foam rot on the MG-1s; nice to finally see a picture.

well, I had a similar experience with one of my Rogues. When I opened it to replace the defective power jack I also discovered such an interesting foam mash. But I think this stuff is not really necessary for a proper function I suppose. And I would recommend sulfur acid or similar to wash the hands after contamination. Normal soap worked not very well.

Re: Moog MG-1 Rot
I bought a slider kit of of ebay but I was able to pull the sliders off the board, pry them open and clean out the gunk, fold em back up and re soldier them back in. I didn't have so much luck with the keyboard though. There is a very thin copper wire that runs along a plastic harness. Two tiers. One for the synth and one for the organ section. each key has two little copper hairs that make a connections at each level. What had happened is a tiny notch would form in the wire that would prevent the key connection from hitting this wire flush(probably from dropping it or over playing it) . I cleaned the hell out of all the copper pieces with cleaner and pipe cleaners. When I put it back together less keys worked than when I started. But this time it was in octaves, so I imagine it was a chip on the board that had gone bad maybe. At this stage I decided that it was beyond my uber limited skills/knowledge and so I traded it to a friend for 4 mint Nik Raicevic records, which are like the grail to me. No regrets. But I do miss it a bit. It sounded fat as hell and I like the easy modulation section. Great for fx sounds.

Woa that looks just like the dreaded foam rot found in mid 60s or later Hammond organs. That foam will eventually be the death of each one of those organs. That stuff is bad news.

years ago, i cleaned up the innards of an Opus 3 that had the foam goo sludge problem. I think i used rubbing alcohol to disolve the residue...or maybe lighter fluid
