Does anyone make a black overlay for the Matriach?
Does anyone make a black overlay for the Matriach?
The Matriarch is one of my favorite sounding synthesizers and its feel and sound are fantastic. Unfortunately, the color scheme is a little off putting for me. No offense to those that like it, I just really don't like the circus colors. Anyone out there make a black overlay?
It looks fantastic in black.

If Moog or somebody came out with a `classic` look - wooden sides and black panels i'd be in for sure! No that I have anything against the colours but I do prefer the classic Moog aesthetic and it fits better with the rest of my gear.

On the top one I see some drilling holes so it looks like the colored panels are removed. Everything is written down/drawed with a pen. Not sure if those play/hold/tap buttons ar painted or that you can order those somewhere in black.
I dig it! When my warranty is over in three years I will do that too

Re: Does anyone make a black overlay for the Matriach?
Yep. That first one is from a Gearslutz post. She/he removed the overlay, and painted it black. Then had someone at a sign shop ink all the parameters by hand. They also said they painted the buttons.
The other - on the YouTube video - post said they used black masking tape and black paper to cover the color panels only.
I wrote Moog and Sweetwater a few times requesting some sort of LE version in black. I would be more than happy to re-buy it and sell my current Matriarch at a loss. I'll be happy to pay $1000 more for a flip-up panel too (and 61 keys! ooft <3). Despite its shortcomings, I really love the Matriarch. My SS37 is sitting in the corner looking jealous.

you could make one in photoshop, get it printed at a sign shop, and install it over top

There's 10 'panels' on the Matriarch and six are already black. In theory you'd only need to cut the colored panels out and put in four replacement black stickers . . .
Re: Does anyone make a black overlay for the Matriach?
Yep. That’s what the one from the YouTube video did and then added some black tape over the blue stripe on the front.

Link? I couldn't find it on a search.
For anyone interested here's the link to the Gearslutz page with the pics:

Thanks for the link Although he says he's just using paper to cover the colored panels it's hard to tell. Of course the lighting is pretty poor so maybe up close it's not as impressive. Certainly the lettering looks a bit rushed.
I've considered using a dimming film over the top - the stuff is usually sold to mask LED lights on clocks and such. That way the colors would still be there but toned way back. Otherwise perhaps a carefully scaled actual sticker . . .

Problem solved. New Matriarch Dark series is the answer. Thank you Moog! Order placed.

Wonder if Moog will make the front black panel available for existing Matriarchs.
