Worth of AE Voyager?

I am contemplating the purchace of a Voyager Anniversary Edition before time runs out. I love this synth, but with a kid in college and all....
Does anybody have an opinion of whether this synth will appreciate in value in the next year or two when they are no longer available? Certainly not the best investment, but at least a fun one...
Thanks for your input!

Good one! And just for your information, the answer was, "Most Likely".
I think that I will get a few more opinions first.....

I own a maple AE, and while I'm unsure as to whether it will appreciate in value, I'm pretty sure it won't depreciate. In all honesty, I didn't buy mine as a speculative investment, and have no intention of selling it. However, given that it's a bit special, it would be nice to think that it will become collectable in the future, and I'm certainly glad I own an AE!

I bought my Anniversary because I love the Moog sound and to be able to buy a new Moog synthesizer is something special!! The AE really looks cool with the backlit panel so it is a joy to play.
How special and rare is the AE version? Well Moog Music made 600 Signature Editions. I think the AE version will be more rare then the Signature.

out of curiousity i posed the question to moog today about the ae version. They responded saying that they will continue to make the black moog voyager and the backlight display. the only thing that will change is the 50 year anniversery medallion will not be on these new voyagers.
I wonder if they will be the same price or if we all just bought a $300 medallion?

Better hope they don't fall off ..

The $300 is for the backlight front panel and the clear blue pitch/mod wheels.
So I assume the price will remane the same or possibly increase for this setup---
without the medallion and the anniversary edition icon under the LCD!
I enjoy my AE and, being a fan of Dr. Moog, its nice to own a historical model of a badass musical instrument.
Oh when Oh when will the Moog movie be available on DVD?
BTW, hopefully you'll see my mini during the superbowl hooplaa! We're setting up a musical/art streaming (and experimental) web broadcast to expose starving local artists in J'ville. I'll try too provide more details later but i hope to give props to Dr. Moog during this time and show how much his innovative ideas have contibuted to most of the modern music we enjoy and experience.
Also, it's final's week at UNF so wish me luck on my Power electronics and Electromagnetics tests. I'm going to need it!!!!!!

If they continue to make the AE and just not slap on the medallalion...well that's just plain dumb. The AE is just not special anymore in my book with that route. And it's was only supposed to be available in 2004 according to what they were marketing. You mean to tell me they were just talking about a medallion?
You'd be better off purchasing a performer and using the extra cash for the VX-351 or CP-251. And with this route you won't have to worry about replacing the back light bulb once it goes out on the AE.
Another J'ville AE?

Sorry for the late response, but my head has been spinnin!
WOW! I was hoping someone might be a big Moog fan in town. BTW, Dr. Moog built a huge modular for J.U. and they recently trashed it!!!!
Oh Well! If you're interested contact me at

BTW, the Super bowl thang is being worked through Mac Truque!
Chroma, Ariel tribe, ..... are some of the bands i know and enjoy locally.
Best wishes and i hope to hear from you soon! Let's make the biggest city in the U.S. the most important and inspiring scene in the music world.

moogmusic have been doing some to many of "special versions" imo. first there was the sig with blue wheels and special tree and when this ran out you could still get the special tree and blue wheels. then the ae with backlit display, which you could still get and even the black colour. some stores got special special versions such as the maple ae. wonder if they dont sell more of all special versions than they do of the vanilla performer. maybe this is the one that will get special in years to come?
How Much is it worth to YOU!

Lets see, I just got my AE. It has the Blue Wheeles, Blue Back Light, Medallion on the right side with a black panal, the left panel is maple, the front and back are cherry, and it was autographed by the good dr. himself, has the "Anniversary Edition" on the LCD panel.
Q: That makes it worth $$??
A: It makes it worth the $$ I paid for it!
Can't forsee the price comming down for 'em
I hear they made about 13,000 Minimoog "D" series, in about 13 years?
that's 1000 a year? <g>
600 Sig. Voyagers +
just over 600 AE's? +
Who knows haw many Performers?
within about 3 years?
Maybe 3000 or so total?
That' about 1000 a year??
Who Knows................
Can't wait to hear what they announce at the NAMM show.

In years to come what would be worth more, the AE or SE?

I really don’t want to speak about whom is worth more… They are all wonderful instruments… a piece of art. But if I have to speculate then I think the SE will be worth more. It is signed by Mr Moog, looks better then the AE since it uses real nice wood.
