Hello Everyone, Quick Question

Hi guys.
I've been playing piano for 9 years, and play many other instruments (guitar, sax , cello just to name a few).
I was listening to some MGMT and now i really want to own a synth.
I learned that they use a minimoog.
They usually sell for ~2000$ used.
My budget is <1000.
I have a seller looking to sell a prodigy or an mg-1.
The mg-1 is 400 and the prodigy is 200.
I'm fine with paying 400 for the mg-1.
Just from the pictures he sent me i'm kinda leaning towards the mg-1.
Which one should i buy?
Price is only a minor consequence.
(Ps: don't bother saying i should buy a cheaper newer entry-level synth, i'm very adamant about using only analog instruments)

EDIT: (immediatly after post) i just checked my email and saw that he's raised the price of the prodigy to 500, which makes price a bit more of a factor. Thanks)

If the MG-1 has not been degrunkified it will be full of black goo that is a real problem to clean up. But if it has been cleaned out, the MG-1 is a good instrument. I have never been a fan of the Prodigy. It never filled a need I had and in it's day it had a lot of competition that was to me better and better priced.

If the prodigy is working fine and he only wants 200 for it, thats a nice bargain. Its a very popular synth that Ive seen sell well over that price on ebay, though everyone tries to wring the Moog name out for everything its worth on ebay.

You could consider a Phatty as well, unless you just want vintage.

Provided that the MG1 is working well, and the Pridigy is too, that wouldn't be a really bad combo to have for those prices. If you didn't like them you could always (at least) break even on ebay and get the phatty. With the money left over you can affors a Moogerfooger to go with it like the RingMod or a CP251 to get those vintage gems to work with some moer modern gear or gear from other manufacturers. Id go for the ringmod though.

Good luck, let us know what you get and upload pics.

Welcome to the Forum,
Eric

experimental pop ? pretty general genre but that's the one that comes to my head first.

psychedelic pop would fit too I guess.

Buy a Moog Little Phatty.

It's easy to get one used for 1000$ or under.. some places I've even seen them around 800$ It's will be a lot better choice than the MG-1 or Prodigy.

Thank God for that - someone who makes music first and worries about the genre afterwards.

I'm not sure what it is, either. I'm not knowledgeable on genres. But maybe you don't fit an existing one anyway - maybe you've invented a new one?

It's good to hear something different, and something being done for the right musical reasons. If it's ok with you I'll post something on the Hawkwind forum (http://hawkwindforum.freeforums.org/ind ... 7836bc9e2e) and see what people think there.

I'm inclined to think you need to just keep on with what you're doing and see where it takes you. To my ears it hasn't come together yet, but when it does it could be interesting.

Yes, I take your point. But in this case I thought the matter was interesting - not relevant to the topic, tangential, but still not the usual spam. Indeed, everything about Botched Fairytale is tangential and doesn't quite fit anywhere, which is what makes them interesting.

BTW there's now a Botched Fairytale topic here: http://hawkwindforum.freeforums.org/erm ... t2993.html
