There is not voltage exchange from the external source into a midi in. And of
cause no voltage from the midi in to the sender.
Hi till,
There are two ways to approach research. The first is to read what other
people have written and then automatically conclude that it must be true.
(The beauty of this method is that it takes very little time, money, or effort.)
The other method is to actually try what you're researching and then come
to a conclusion based on actual results that you've just observed.
Here are the steps I used to research this (using the second method above):
I used an MP-201 and a MIDI Solutions Thru box that clearly has no internal
power supply.
When I plugged the MIDI Out of the MP-201 to the MIDI In of the box, the red
LED on the MIDI Thru box came on indicating the box was getting power.
When I plugged the MIDI In of the MP-201 into the MIDI Thru of the box, the
red LED on the MIDI Thru again came on indicating the box was getting power.
(There were no other cables connected to the MIDI Thru box at that time.)
I made certain that there were no Tesla coils operating anywhere in the
vicinity of this test that might have supplied power wirelessly through the air.
My conclusion, as stated in my previous post, is based on these two tests.
If you actually try this experiment yourself with an MP-201 and get different
results, please let me know as it may indicate that I have an aberrant MP-201.
