separating a vx-351 from a cp-251

I got a cp-251 and vx-251 in a rack together used. I took them apart and out of the moog rack chassis or whatever it's called. The vx-351 had the power supply wire connected to the cp-251 so the cp-251 would be powered up as well when the 351 was connected to the voyager. I'm putting the wood panels and backs on both because I want them separate again. Do I just let the wire that went from the 351 out to the 251 float in the case when I put the back and sides back on the 351? Do I need to do anything with it? Also, what do I need to watch out for as far as touching wires, bread boards etc. when the electronics are exposed?
Thanks in advance

The VX351 is not powered. The CP-251 requires a 9 volt DC source to run. There are two locations where the power jack can be located, on the top for table top use, or, with the rack mount kit from Moog, you can re-locate the jack to the bottom of the unit so it can plug in behind the rack. It sounds like the guy you bought it from ran this jack into the VX351 for some weird reason and into the hole on the rack behind the VX351 instead of the CP251.
You need to have the power jack mounted and connected in the CP251. Re-mount it in the hole on the top (not front) of the case.
I don't understand what wire you are talking about regarding power wires in the VX351.
I can look for my "rack mount kit" instructions scan the page and send it to you or maybe post it here, if that is allowed.

There was a little wire harness that transferred power from the VX351 (powered from the Voyager) to the CP251. It was a nice way to power your cp251 form the Voyager but some found it a bit on the noisey side.
I don't know if this was addressed, but this is what the op was talking about.

Interesting. Learn something new. Now, the trick is to remember the new...

Yes Eric, thats what I was asking about. So I guess it's ok to just leave it floating unattached in the 351? Also the question about what things to be careful of when opening these up still stands. I recently had a friend damage his voyager when he had it open, it cost $800 to fix if I remember right. I love to avoid a mistake like that.
