cp-251 version differences

Hi
I just received a new cp-251 from analogue solutions which doesn't have the red input jacks as I see pictured but the older style with the circle, so this is an older stock unit. This doesn't really bug me, but are there any other differences or improvements which were made to the newer design?

Hi.
Welcome to the Moog forums.
The newer ones, without the red jacks are different.
The new one's Attenuators can go negative as well. (basically invert the signal)

I like the new ones alot better, it is super cool with an analog sequencer.

Wow, the negative attenuators are my favorite thing about it, so hooray for black jacks! I just wish there was a reset trigger for the lfo.

HI 1 The S & H out is to low. I buy a second CP251 when you fix the voltage from S&H(it is 1v it must be 5v) greets ebo

How did you determine that the max CV out of the S&H was only 1V?

I'm guessing it is because the noise output is low, and noise is what feeds the S&H unless you have something else plugged in. I can't say that it has ever bothered me. It seems like a more naturally "usable" range to me, and if it was putting out random stuff between +5v and -5v I'd probably have to send it to the attenuator before I routed it to something.

hi I use a osacilloscope to mesure the out put.I also try to use the noise from MP201 it is not realy better and the trick with the mixer to power up the S&H voltage no good. i use the mixer for other things.why dont you fix up the bug ?greets ebo

yeah why did Moog make the s/h voltage so low? It works ok to modulate pitch (could be better), but its weak with the LPF and other parameters. Like Ebo is saying, it would be nice to use the mixer for other things than just getting the S/H where you want it. Would have been nice for a width or range knob for the S/H like ARP units have.

Last week I took 2 samples of the noise from the Voyager and the CP251. The Voyager's noise is superior. The cp's noise had some issues that sounded like background noise or line noise but it was hard to tell if it my imagination made up from the various frequencies.

offset one of the attenuators to +5 and you'll get A LOT of S&H... no need to use the mixer.

That would basically be an attenuator permanently attached to the S&H, instead of keeping with the modular theme and having separate attenuators that you can use for anything.

I think the problem is that the Noise is just putting out a relatively low volume. The S&H will only go as high as the "source" signal goes. Try sending the Noise out to an attenuator set at +5 to boost the level, then route it back to the input of the S&H. I'm at work right now so I can't try it, but in theory this should get you some hotter signals coming out of the S&H.
