I bought a used MMV Performer from an ebay seller - I suspect they are a pawn shop. Anyhow, it arrived and the middle C key appears to be dead. It's not stuck, and feels normal, but it doesn't generate any sound or effect.

What's involved in fixing something like this? Could a skilled instrument mechanic take care of this in most cases, or does it need to be sent back to Moog Music? Can one key be fixed without replacing the entire keyboard worth?

I shouldn't think its a huge problem to fix. You could probably open it up, and have a look, but it seems a lot of effort will be needed to get to the keyboard assembly. The whole keyboard wouldn't need replacing, thank god. You may be able to obtain a part from somewhere. I've had to open my Pro-One up a few times because of the keyboard, its nothing to be afraid of if you know what you're doing, but even I don't know how to disassemble a Voyager!

The Voyagers keyboard action is produced by the italian (?) company Fatar. And the same model with a different key range is used for the Waldorf Q and the Hartmann Neuron too. And maybe some other synths as well.
