Okay, are there any rumors that Moog is working on a polyphonic synthesizer? I would dearly love such a critter, but have not heard anything about the possible development of one.

Yes, I would certainly like to see some information on the new "MaxiMoog"

Love the name, don't you? (You know, if you guys at MOOG really like the name, is there a chance that you'll do the same thing you did with VOYAGER and give a machine to the person that came up with the name? I'm on record here...)

I think that the good folks at MOOG would find it a good idea to yoke the strength of this forum and milk us for all the input they can for the project.

I prefer Megamoog, in keeping of Mini, Micro, etc. But yes. A polysynth is long overdue.

That's true... but first of all, Maxi[mum] is the appropriate counter to Mini[mum]. And the fact that Moog came out with the MiniMoog first in a BIG way, I think that the MaxiKorg thing will be forgiven. And I really think that MaxiMoog is VERY appropriate at this time. Granted, Korg did use Maxi first, but with no offence to Korg, it's sort of like big brother snapping his suspenders and saying, "let me show you how it's done..."

By the way, are any of you old enough to remember when the name MOOG was in itself a commonly accepted word for "Synthesizer" in the same way BandAid is for an adhesive bandage strip?

I think MaxiMoog sounds best.

Korg didn't trademark the word.

MaxiMoog makes me think of a certain feminine product...

I think ManyMoog is the way to go.

The MiniMoog was a smaller version of a modular Moog. A ManyMoog would be several Moogs, due to polyphony.

Apparently, others have come up with this name, too.

They had one. It was 1/3 of the Constellation, along with the Taurus I and Polymoog. I don't think that Multimoog would be appropriate. It would confuse the old timers.

I just hope whatever it is called, the implementaion is better than the original memory moog. Nothing like having a synth patch change from the slightest touch because the pots scanner would glitch. I loved the sounds I got out of mine, but no way I would ever take it to a gig. Too fragile for that.
OF course, with that out of the way. How many voice and how multi timbral does every one want it?
I'd like 16 voice poly, 4 part multi timbral. (And an envelope for each voice, velocity, aftertouch, release velocityand now that I'm finding it indispensable, a touch screen.)

16 voices? I see ten voices being the absolute maximum amount necessary. Of course, six or eight would be all I personally ask for. And let's try to keep it around six or seven thousand dollars while we're at it.
