Expander for MP-201

Hi everyone!
I got my Mp201 few weeks ago and is great, but I try to get a clue how to
expand its outputs.Could I use a MIDI to CV converter,so I could control more
CV ins on moogers.I was looking over Kenton mk2000. Does this make sense?
I must say that I dont know much about MIDI and this kind of programing.
Any suggestions?

I think using the MP-201 with a Kenton or similar would work great. PLease report your findings.... I a m real interested in heading that way with this and I'm sure others are as well. I'm gonna hook up the MULT jacks of my CP expansion unit (for the voyager RME) and get some expansion going that way.....although of course this means multiple parameters will get the same CV sent to them...useful but not perfect

The MP-201 only has 4 unique channels. Each channel can be sent as CV and/or MIDI. So, if you want more CV channels (of the four types that you already have), it would probably make more $ense to use a CV multiplier, rather than adding MIDI-to-CV.

If you use multiple you get same CVs. Thats not my goal.
I would like to have a second MP-201 but in smaller format... without switches and expression pedal, just more independent CV with LFOs. Moog should make
a firmware for MP to control other CV channels on the expander and you could control them with exp. on MP-201.
But I dont know if Kenton can do this.

I am a bit confused by the comments here. First, the MP-201 has four CV outputs so if you want to control devices with CV inputs, the you are only going to get four independent CVs. A multiple, like the one on the CP-251, will help in sending out multiple CVs at the same voltage but not independent CVs.
There are numerous MIDI to CV options with different brands. Kenton was mentioned which has a one channel MIDI to CV (the MK-II) and the Pro-2000 Mk II with 6 CV outs. If you have an expression pedal producing MIDI data then you would change the MIDI channel and send it to each of the Kenton's 6 outs athough you would also have to have a switch of some sort to change the channel or use the 201 somehow.
Having a smaller expansion unit would be nice but I would not expect that Moog is going to do that at least no time in the near future.
If you have an Apple you may want to look into MOTU's Volta which sends out CVs and is only limited by the number of outs in your interface.

This is just repeating what has already been said in the comments above, I fail to see the confusion.
Vitja B- Did you ever give the Kenton or other a try?

I think he was confused as to why I was talking about the multiplier at all. My point was that the MP-201 only has four channels. You can send CV and/or MIDI, but it is the same control signal. Adding a MIDI-to-CV wouldn't really get you much (anything?) that a multiplier wouldn't - you're still stuck with four control signals.
Based on the original poster's other comments, it sounds like he is after more than four unique control signals, so a multiplier or MIDI-to-CV really isn't going to help. He needs a new product from Moog.

Ah I see.
I need to look into these other midi-cv options. Pretty bummed about the mp201 dying and the wait time for repair...

No,not yet.
My Idea is like this;If MP-201 can send a program change via MIDI,and
If it can sand a footpedal MIDI ccs via MIDI,than you need just something similar to MP-201 but with more CV outs and with independent LFOs.
And I dont know if Kenton can send a programed voltage to foogers like a preset-or LFOs.
Maybe I should buy a MAC book and VOLTA! But Im not into computers

But if you do use a multiple you can then invert, attenuate, lag, and mix with other control voltages. So with a little elbow grease a cp could get you more wave forms from you mp plus the square, triangle and s/h from the cp

Yes,but I need presets!Presets!Presets!...I play live, and there is no time
for patching, and I play guitar,so my hands are working all the time.
I think Volta is the thing...but first I need a leptop
I hate computers

Well I finally got the MP201 back... and now anything I plug it into starts squealing(arg... more like a sustained beeeeeeeeeeeep. i should call moog.. maybe its my house, not sure but its definitely new with the mp201 since the day i got it back. i should take my gear to another location and try it out..)... I already have a mbookpro that I run ableton off of and play to (and the guitar/keys player is syncd to my comp as well), so im going to look into volta starting today. Im worried about taxing my cpu too hard between ableton and another program... assuming its a low-draw program, im going to give it a whirl.
