Signature Logo vs. MOOG Logo

Post by Rakuza » Thu Jul 08, 2004 10:17 am

What's the deal with this? Why are there two different versions of the logo that are both still floating around? Do people only care which is which so that their foogers will match their other foogers?

Just curious.

PS - Was the delay only made with the signature logo?

Only my MuRF has the Moog logo, all the previous mofo's, including the CP-251's, have the "Bob Moog" signature logo. I assumed that this was because the company was called Big Briar until fairly recently when Bob got the rights to the Moog trademark again. So I'm guessing that everything made before a certain date (Big Briar) will have the signature logo and everything since then will have the official Moog logo on it.

That's exactly right - one's with Bob's signature printed were made when we were Big Briar (we changed names to Moog Music in 2002).
There are no changes to the moogerfoogers' design other than the printing of the Moog logo.

Trademark issues

Again, out of curiosity, why didn't Bob have the rights to the Moog name?
What's the story?

Bob's Name

Legal entanglements is the best way to describe it. Moog began pursuing the rights to his name in 1994 and took 8 years until 2002 before those rights were sorted out in court. We are still fighting this issue in the UK where we still go to market under Big Briar.

Moog Music.
