Thereminists Beware !!!

Hello to Everyone !

Buyers Beware ! Those of us that are interested in purchasing that Etherwave Pro that we so much want, be very, very cautious about who you are dealing with in any purchasing matters ! I come to tell about some matters that have come to my attention lately concerning the Etherwave Pro.

It seems that there was an auction lately where an Etherwave Pro was sold for over Seven Thousand Dollars. It seems that this was just smoke and mirrors to fool the theremin community that an Etherwave Pro could very well be sold for that much money ! It is my belief that this was a trick, they get some friends to be the highest bidders and get the auction to soar to seven thousand dollars, you see the bidders are in with the seller, no one loses ! Get it!

That company or companies can now claim that Etherwave Pros demand that kind of price tag and now sell them for that much with no questions asked. This recent auction was a ruse to get us to fall for it, and we did ! There is a stash of Theremins out there being sold for big sums of money, they are aware of the demand and are holding out !

Also be aware of someone out there in the Theremin community that is dealing with a Fraud ring, pretending to be selling an Etherwave Pro, just so they can get your money through a Fraudulent DHL Freight company that will act as a intermediary party. These people know that Etherwave Pro's are in demand and are using this to there advantage. To get the prospective Buyer to BITE, and then take their savings and be gone in a flash !

Please believe what I say, for I was almost a victim !

Sincerely, fxstir

Interesting.

Well please elaborate, and tell us who this seller was. I remember that EW Pro for 8000.

With the economy as bad as it is, there are scammers everywhere trying to make a fast buck. Not just on theremins, either. Unless the seller has a good reputation, or you've had good experiences in the past with a certain dealer, I'd recommend not buying on E-Bay. Good advice to heed, for sure! :)

Well the parties involved were posing as a married couple looking to sell their Etherwave Pro, I assumed that it was possibly a legit sale so I expressed interest and we proceeded as usual with the steps to pay. They suggested DHL worldwide service which turned out to be a totally FAKE website. I don't know who these people are, but I was lucky that I caught on to a couple of things that seemed odd.
I don't want to tip my hand with who the Ebay scammer could be, that would really be letting the cat out of the bag. The culprits seem to have some familiarity with the Theremin community.
The real question is how do we stop or prevent the possibility of Fraud in trying to purchase Etherwave Pro's ?
How do we deal with the sellers? How do we know they are legit ?
I would love to hear some advice about these matters? It seems to be getting really bad dealing with purchasing items.
I think we as a community have to set the bar for what the maximum will be that we will pay, otherwise these auctions will skyrocket uncontrollably.
Let's face it, there was never such an outrageous auction as the $7,000+ auction. Things that make you go UMMMM !!! This was a totally fixed auction!!

Well we can't exactly deal with fraud if we aren't exposing the people doing it.

Its good that you let us know about this but if you aren't willing to let people know who you were dealing with then someone here can still fall victim to them...if what you are saying is really true.

That auction and that unscrupulous Dealer behind it, belong to another era now...

As I've mentioned in another post, between the declining economy and the new Etherwave Plus allowing CV connectivity & Pitch Preview, I don't fancy overinflated prices for the EPro or the Limited Edition being much beyond 3k to 3.5k, respectively. And those would have to be pristine machines, inside and out.

That was a couple months ago, so I would expect them to be even cheaper to obtain now, as the global economy implodes further...

Why Moog doesn't repackage and reintroduce the Pro in a more traditional wood case (something like the WaveFront Classic) that's easier to make, is beyond me... Add another lower Register position, and some MIDI connectivity-- and bob's your uncle. *shrugs*

EW-Pro Scammers

Ebay shut down that listing fast. Never deal with a seller who wants you to deal ONLY outside ebay on a 1-Day auction. I couldn't beleive that these guys made a duplicate of my listing, picture and all. I've seen these same people make a listing for a 1959 Gibson Les Paul in mint cond. for $900.00. Just for the record, They may have duplicated my listing, but I had nothing to do with that auction. I happily sold my EW-Pro to a highest (buy-it-now) bidder in Italy and that was that. Here's a link to it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0292671348
