Pot Mapping: How is it done?

I just wondered how the new "Pot Mapping" feature is achieved.
Is it done in the analogue domain? Hard to believe, because that would mean that there are 4 additional analogue hardware CV busses hidden inside the machine.
I guess it is done digitally, but I wonder how exactly. I suspect that the surplus of computing power from the controller CPU is used for dynamically updating four of the (digital) patch values. I just wonder how high the updating frequency is, and if you get "steppyness" with fast and broad modulations.
What are your observations?
