hi,

just got my voyager performar 7 days ago.

now i am playing arround and just used a cheap studioprojects vtb-1 pre amp as a line insert (pre filter) efx.
the vtb-1 got a cheasy sounding tube and distorts quite easy. the result is a very nice, rich, warm and a little distorted sound.

anybody else uses a pre amp like the vtb-1 as an insert?

by the way:
for tracking in the daw i used an api a2d which adds a little rock&roll too.
so far i am loving the voyager!! i got some great sounds out of it using the boss re-20 space echo.
i just wish the voyager had this feature where the knobs pick up the settings of a preset - just like the phatty.
and maybe the next update will bring an appegiator too!!!

Hi ozorg,

FWIW, I sometimes use a PreSonus BlueTube Preamp in the Mix Out loop to add a bit of color to the Voyager sound, so I'd say your instincts are right-on!

Note also that you can add any number of additional effects in this loop, including chorus, phasers, flangers, distortion pedals, overdrives, etc. Don't forget about amp sims like the POD, which can add both color and distortion to the signal.

One of the best devices I've found for this application is an Exciter, which adds brilliance to the the oscillators and gives the filters something tasty to 'chew' on. I've used a BBE Sonic Stomp pedal for this with great results - try it if you get a chance.

when i use the pre amp as an insert efx i see the meters of the pre amp are constantly showing some input coming in eventhough no sound is played!
it seems that the voyager puts out some electro "data" which can't be heard but shows on the meters of the pre amp.

is that normal?

It is normal.

The Voyager oscillators are always running, which is why you get a reading on your preamp (the 'dynamics' don't get applied until the oscillators reach the VCA at the end of the signal chain).

The level that you are seeing is the post-Mixer signal, which is a mix of the three Oscillators, the Noise Source and the External Input signal. Nearly all Voyager Presets have at least one oscillator switched ON, so you'll always see something on the preamp meters. To prove this to yourself, call up a Preset and turn all of the Mixer switches OFF - the preamp meter should register zero signal.
