Chaos controlling it...

Hello.
Right now I'm designing a (freeware) software specifically built to control with MIDI all the marvellous parameters of voyager.
This controls are driven by "strange attractors" chaotic formulas, so it can be usefull to discover peculiar random modulations..
Strange attractors are more fun than other computer random generators since they are really unpredictable.
I'm writing this for OSX (sorry but for now I can't do any windows porting)
If someone is interested in this we could use this post to discuss it and I'll publish here the URL for download as soon as I'll get the work done.
any feedback is appreciated

Hi Gio,
You should check out the the Noise Ring (Data Resonator Modulated Entropy Voltage Source) from Wiard.
http://www.wiard.com/
The Noise Ring is a Hit Smash!
The Critics are unanimous!
"#1 with a Rail Gun!" - Rudolf the Rucker
"I always wondered what Mome Raths sound like when they outgrabe. Now I know. Thank you!" - Carol Lewis
"It sounds like it's decoding something ancient. Like if the Incas had modems" - D. I.
"I don't know what it is, I don't know what it does. But I stayed up for two nights just watching the lights" - B. H.
"My wifes cat hates it! Enclosed is a check for another one..." - N. H.
This module is designed to work with Blacet modules and features a 10 volt range. It mounts in the same rack as Blacet modules, and ships with a power connector for the Blacet PS500 supply. The faceplate is thicker than the Blacet series. Module is currently in production. Price is US$199

well.. my little thing is midi, that means that virtually every control of voyager can be modulated at the same time by multiple attractors..
and by the way, it is free...

that sounds like a lot of fun... i use os x and would be interested in that when its ready! do you plan to have it support inter-application midi so it can be routed to the midi inputs of other programs, such as Reason?

Tobor...
Sir...that is awesome. Too bad I'm using OS 9.2.2 though.

s16016wb:
the whole thing could work for every MIDI application, nevertheless I'd like to design it specifically for voyager synth...I'll see what I can do...
Sir-dss:
Unfortunately I can't help you with this.. I suggest you to take a look to OSX, wich can do a looot of new interesting things...

Well, well
for my BSc thesis I have applied Evolutionary Algorithms to electronic music composition. Maybe, I should make a ver. 2.0 of EvoMusic and give it as shareware.
You can do a lot of fun and very interesting stuff with Evolutionary algorithms. For instance, you could make a initialization population of random Voyager patches and then use the objective function to produce a new generation of even better patches. Evolutionary and genetic algorithms rely on the "survival of the fittest" concept. Which is to say that weak sounds will not survive.
Criteria comprise of a set of "acoustic viable" parameters (for instance it's highly unlikely that you would need an attack of 127 for amplitude) and of course your own personality. By repeating the process ad infinitum you could have killer patches. Or come up with a patch that with a few knobulations sounds great. I was very deeply involved in C++ at the time and even presented the paper at an international conference but somehow I have lost interest.

Yes, even cellular automata can be a usefull resource and I can include it in the software, wich by the way I'm developing using Max/MSP

Sounds great! I'd love to experiment with your stange attractors control software.
My Voyager is hooked up to OSX and waiting. Thanks for your generous work and exploration.

This week I should receive my voyager, so i could start experimenting and writing the soft. It will take some time to get a good work, but if you'll have little patience we'll get this voyager oddity running on OSX soon.

Thanks to everybody!!
keep posting here suggestions and questions
HEY TODD! I'm a great fan of yours! Your site is a must for moog freaks like me

Keep it up!

Tobor --
Happy exploring with your new voyager! And thanks for your kind comments and checking in on the MoogMuse site! We've now done over 100 daily pieces and will probably wrap it up sometime this month. However, we're now planning a DVD of
the entire set. . . stay tuned! Strange attractors rock

Todd,
Yes! You should totally release a DVD of that work. I forward your URL to people all the time, it's great stuff. But online compressed audio quality isn't good enough for obsessive studio-geeks like me

I need it on DVD!
My AE Voy arrives tomorrow. I'm freaking out!

today or tomorrow will be the DAY!

Hi Solar and Tobor -- enjoy your v--gers! yahoo! and thanks for the
encouragement about the DVD version of moogmusings -- I agree,
the compressed stuff is just the tip of the sonic iceberg.
best, Todd

How's your strange attractors/chaos software coming? I'm still interested!
