Midi 101

hey guys, I just acquired a Sequential Circuits Six-trak and also have access to my bandmates LP as well. I've always used my synths for rock music and played them 'live' when recording. However, I'd like to be able to create some sequences via midi.
My DAW is a Digidesign 002 rack w Protools Le 7.3... Could someone lend advice on how I could possibly set-up my SC Six-trak to record sequences using midi. *Note: I literally know nothing about midi.
Will I need a program other than Protools? (like Reason?) Any instructions/help/tips are much appreciated.
