Hi all, I use a Voyager and two Yamaha Motif's, a 6 and an 8. I noticed that Jonny Greenwood (guitarist/keyboardist from Radiohead) uses an Akai S3000XL Sampler with an entire Mellotron sampled onto it, which he controls with a Fatar keyboard controller.

My question is, If i had the sampler with the Mellotron sounds, could I use my Motif to play them, or would i NEED a keyboard controller? Thanks for reaidng.

I don't have a Motif, but I'm pretty sure it should be possible to use it as controller. Check your Motif manual - especially the chapters about MIDI controlling etc...

Maybe a little off-topic, but do you know where I could find the complete Mellotron samples set ?
And do you mean the choir sample from "Exit music" (I think Johny Greenwood is using the Mellotron sample you mean) ?

Yes! Exactly from Exit Music! You hit it right on the head....that IS Mellotron, isn't it?

$200 seems like a bit much but it's better then $5000+ for a real Mellotron!

I saw Radiohead last year on Rock Werchter (BE) festival; it was great & I was on the front row - so I could see anything Johny used very well. Other stuff I remember: Thom Yorke on the Rhodes Stage Piano MkI (Morning Bells, Pyramid Song, ...) and Greenwood on the great giant modular from Analogue Systems (AS 8000). Further I think a Nordlead, and some stuff I can't remember.

Yes you can use tje Motif as a controller, if the samples are in Akai or Yamaha format you can load them into the Motif( the older Motif has a SCSI port the ES has a USB), or if you have enough ram "sample" the .wav files in and map them to the keyboard, then save to the smart media card.
