I recently decided I wanted to start learning to play the Theremin and promptly found a couple of people in my area (Bristol) who played and got more information from them. I saw Dorit Chrysler live in the town I live, met her after and got her to sign her CD that I bought. The gig only made me want to play more.

Since then I've had trouble getting hold of a Theremin. I called up Sound Control in my town and they said they had one which was a display model. I then joined the Sound Control website who gave me a voucher for free postage so decided to order from there instead as I don't have loads of spare time to get to the local store. FIVE days later they email me telling me they have none in stock! Because it took them so long to contact me the display model in the local store is now gone.

I called up the local Sound Control then and the guy says he could probably order one in for me and would call back... you guessed it... he never called back.

I then called Turnkey who tell me they are also out of stock but will get a bunch in soon enough and to call in about three weeks but then they won't have the power supplies to go with them!

Why do these websites have them on their site and not show an "out of stock" image if they have none. It's really annoyed me and wasted my time. I have two weeks off University which I could be learning and playing Theremin if I'd got the display model but the websites didn't show me they have none in stock so I have to wait god knows how long.

Does anyone know any other U.K. base websites that sell the Etherwave Moog Theremin? Or alternatively does anyone know if I order from this site would the plug(s) be U.S. or U.K. if I order the 220V?

Did you know there's another theremin gig coming up in Bristol on Sunday at the Lansdown pub. You can get tickets from http://www.bristolticketshop.co.uk/.

The thereminist is called Charlie Draper - last time I saw him play was at Turnkey in London where he was demonstrating the ePro as Moog's official UK demonstrator.

I had better experiences in Germany.

I got the adapter for 230V and it was no problem. This is the most important thing. But this is the German one.

I think, if you have this, you need only an additional adaptor like travellors use it for other devises.

If you do not find a direct solution, may be you could use a solution for the German version + a non-expensive switch-adaptor for Great Britain.


But may be, you can contact BigBriar, they have the 220 V power supply on their homepage.

I would propose to ask before buying which kind of plug the power supply has.

I bought my own at the German shop via Internet.

Haven't complained to Management at all. Don't know how I would get through directly to them to be honest.

Yea Charlie Draper is one of the Thereminists in Bristol that I talk to. Met him briefly at the Dorit Chrysler show. I won't be going to the show though as it is the evening of the Superbowl and my favourite team is in it for like ... the first time ever.

OK So I know a guy in a band in America who said he could get one and bring it over for me later this month but I'm wondering about the power supply and conversion. Any help...?

Caveat - I am not an electrician.

This is what it says on my power adaptor -

Input 230V AC 50Hz 0.05A
Output 14V AC 200mA

The tricky bit is going to be plugging it into the etherwave - it has a 3 pin DIN plug on the end that connects to the instrument.



According to the manual it must be earthed ("Grounded" in American English.) You can download the manuals here.

"Understanding, Customizing and Hot-Rodding your Etherwave Theremin The Hot-Rod Manual for the Etherwave includes a circuit description, and custom circuits for DIY electronics enthusiasts."

It includes a schema (wiring diagram), and if you know an electrician, it should not be a problem to hot-rod a power connection.

The "owners manual" does not have a schema.

Finally got me a Theremin! There was one Etherwave on eBay and managed to get it.
