Hello to all,

for all of you who are using a Windows pc and running MS Word I'll upload a patch interpreter & bank manager for the MMVoyager.

Because there is no web space at Moog Music's homepage for uploading user files I'll do it via the other MMVoyager user forum at yahoo.com. I think that everybody knows this address, but if not here is the link: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/mmvoyager/

At first a short description I wrote for that forum:

I've just finished a little program in version 2.0 that helps to understand any sound file of the MMVoyager and realizes a "bank manager". Sorry, but it's a MS Word application and so it runs only on a Windows pc if MS Word is installed. I'd further developed the program from a small patch interpreter, I'd released half a year ago. Now it got the following features:


1. displays all knob and switch settings of any single sound file beside all internal routings etc., normally visible only from the MMV display menu (of course adapted to the new OS 2 features of the MMV)

2. prints out the whole displayed sheet (with all displayed values from 1.)

3. splits any preset file (of 128 sounds) into 128 sound files for single downloading them into the MMV

4. arranges a set of 128 sounds (drag & drop via mouse) with the help of two (small) windows including editor functionality (clear, insert, delete)

5. stores the new arranged preset as a file (bank of 128 sounds) with a selectable name of course, for downloading it into the MMV


To give you an impression of that program I uploaded two screen shots into the files folder. If anybody wants to use it, please send a replay to this forum. I would like to upload the program into the files folder.

I like to use the patch interpreter for myself and I would be glad, if it would be useful to anybody else too. Of course, it will be free for everybody!

what is this about?

You can have a 'internal' look into any sound without loading it into the MMV and adjusting every pot or switch to meet its original values (beside all internal routings and assignments)
... AND ...
you can arrange 128 single sounds in any order (from any source) and build a so called preset file, the MMV is able to load at once.

But the program can also split any preset file (of 128 sounds) into its 128 single sound files. Because the MMV is able to receive such single sound files since OS 1.5, you can send it (from a sequencer or via Midi-OX e.g.). The MMV receives it and temporarily stores it into the active sound slot (and you have to store it manually with the help of menu items).

Please ask your further questions this way!!!

It's free of course for everybody!

I was looking for any web space to upload the program, but now I'll use the yahoo group again. Sorry, but if Moog Music isn't offering such possibilities I don't know any other solution.

In the next post I'll describe some instructions for use.

Here some instructions for the use of the bank manager:

Keep in mind that the program is running only from MS Word. I'd tested it with Office 2000 and Office XP and it runs fine. I tested it under Windows NT4, 2000 and XP of course. If you should find any problem (error message) and you are not able to solve that problem by yourself, please send a message.

At the moment there is no user manual, sorry. I wrote one for version 1.0 of the patch interpreter (including hints for installing the software) and uploaded it on the MMV group at yahoo in summer 2003. So, please download that PDF file, you should find there, firstly (http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/mmvoyager/ inside the Files category, and then Patch Interpreter, then PatchInterpreter Manual.pdf). Please read it to understand a little bit the philosophy of this program. Of course, the new features (bank manager) isn't described there ...

Some buttons of the program (version 1.0) are not available anymore, because OS 2 of the MMVoyager is able to correct some wrong internal parameter settings by itself (please read the OS 2 documentation for details). These (lost) buttons were named "Def.T.S. ...".


If you have no (!) single sound files to arrange as new bank file (preset file) you have to split an existing preset file (e.g. downloaded from Moog Music). Store such (existing) bank files on any folder at your pc (e.g. "C:\MMV\Banks\").

Press the 'SplitBank' button (right side, in the middle). Choose the drive and folder (where you'd stored the bank file) and then select that bank file. Press 'open'. Then you are asked to choose a folder for storing the (128) single sound files. Do so and press 'open' again. Now you "own" at least 128 single sound files ...

1. double click into the left small window of the ... bank manager

2. navigate to the folder of the single sound files (see above)

3. choose some sound files as usual under Windows (multi select using the shift- and/or ctrl-key) and press 'open'

4. these files are loaded into the window you started the action

5. you have 128 sound slots, so repeat action 3. as often as necessary

6. the right window is a copy of the left one, so you can have a look to different places at the same time

7. you can move (or copy and paste by additional pressing the 'ctrl' key) any sound inside the left or the right window, or from left to right or visa versa, you can clear a sound slot (by pressing 'ClearPatch') or delete one or insert one ... (by pressing the corresponding button)

8. if you are happy with your new arranged sound bank, only press 'NewPreset' and choose a folder and name again and press 'store' at the end; that's is

This bank file you can upload into the MMVoyager with the help of any sequencer, or MiDi-Ox ... The result is a normal "syx" file, as the original ones from Moog Music.


Only one additional remark:

If you press the 'List / Dr..' button, the right window changes to a "drive view" and the button's caption to '...st / Drive'. Here you can choose a whole folder (that means its content) for easy selecting and copying some single sounds. This window can show up to 640 sounds at the same time, but is only a source for arranging a sound bank on the left side. This means you can only copy from the right side to the left one, not visa versa, if this mode is selected. Pressing '...st / Drive' again switches back to the formal state.


One additional request to all users of the program:

Please mail me any trouble (error message or so) to help improving the program, and give your help to any other user who needs it. And please help to describe the functionality with right words, because English isn't my native language.

I've just uploaded a minor update of the Patch Interpreter & Bank Manager (now version 2.01), as there was a little error inside the plot of a single sound patch ('Fil. ENV Gate SRC' and 'Amp. ENV Gate SRC' were mixed up in the version 2.0).

I uploaded another minor update of the Patch Interpreter & Bank Manager into the Files folder of the yahoo's MMVoyager group.

Explanations:

If non initialized values of internal parameters of the MMVoyager occur THAT ARE OUT OF RANGE (only possible by using older patches without using the initializing procedure from OS2), then the MMV always uses the first entry of its internal parameters list to correct the problem.

But in these cases the Patch Interpreter (2.0, 2.01) had shown three question marks "???" instead of a special parameter value.

Now, as I know that the MMV in such cases always uses its first value from the possible range of values, the Patch Interpreter behaves the same way, and therefor such question marks are shown never again.

I observed those out-of-range values firstly when using the original Moog Music presets with OS 1.5.

Actually I've seen them in the very new "Anniversary Edition" preset e.g. inside the sound "OLD MINI rm" and "CELLOGY am" always at the parameter "T.S. Dest. - Gate - Switch". These value were "15" inside, but the range is defined from "0 = No Switch" to "13 = ENV Gate Switch" only. Therefor "0" is used instead of "15".

This automatically correcting (of the MMV) works only if such an non initialized value is really out-of-range, of course. Any other random value from inside the defined range isn't able to be corrected this way.

Always use the initialize function of OS2 therefor!

I uploaded today the latest version of the Patch Interpreter & Bank Manager for the MMV as version 2.03 into the Files folder of the Yahoo's Voyager group (see posts above).

For those of you, that are using a PC running Windows and MS Word, this version should be an interesting tool (for more details again see the posts above!).

1.
Now I added a feature called "MultiPrint" that allows you to print the "layout" of more than (only) 1 sound at a time.

First of all you have to "fill" the list boxes below with the sounds you want to "see" or to arrange into a new bank, ... This could be the 128 sounds of the very new Anniversary Edition sound bank for example.

Then, when you'd displayed the knobs and switch settings of any selected sound, you should pay attention to the "check box" named "MultiPrint". If this one is marked and you'll press "PrintKnobs", then you will be asked to input the number of wished sounds next. This means, if you input the number 5 for example, then the actual displayed sound together with the next 4 sounds will be printed. (One remark: if there is an empty sound slot in that list box, that is included by the wished number of sounds, then printing stops at this sound slot to avoid "empty" plots.)

This feature should save your time, if you want to get these layout plots, e.g. for your whole new preset bank.

As you know, the new OS 2 enables a lot of additional internal routings, that are shown in that layout plot too. But in this actual version 2.03 of the Patch Interpreter ... all the routings that are switched off are "greyed out" inside the layout plot. E.g. if any "Pot Mapping" is assigned to a source, to a destination too, and a direction of course, but the amount is set to "OFF", then it has no influence on the sound at all, and therefor it's "greyed out". The same way, if at the "MOD. WHEEL" or "PEDAL/ON" bus a "SOURCE" switch isn't in its right-most position (called PGM) then any internal value for the PGM mode isn't active and therefor this value is "greyed out" again. Same behaviour for the "DESTINATION" switches and for the "SHAPING" switches of those busses. No effect is indicated by grey letters ...

If any amount of a T.S.Dest. X/Y/A is set to OFF then all its parameters are "greyed out"; if the T.S.Dest.-Gate is assigned to "No switch", then all its parameters are so ...

This should improve the overview of the analysed sounds ...
