Muse tuning in the Summer: External case fans *may* improve tuning stabiltity

I write this post knowing that most Moog Muse users have never experienced this synth in a summer heat, but I have here in Australia. My tuning instability hasn't been consistent enough to say it's entirely down to higher temps or rising temps, but I did find that it was hard to have stable for long over summer.

I have two experiences I want to share that may help others.

Be careful doing a full tune on hot days.

At one point I decided to do a full tune and it was worth trying as my machine was becoming unplayable. My heart dropped when I found myself unable to complete the tunes do to the ambient temperature - it took me a few days to find a very cool morning on which to get things going and complete.

Putting some fans on the case seem to help my stability.

I seem to find certain specific temps just never tune, and they always seem to be showing when I find (43.1 celsius is one off the top of my head!)

I tried putting some AC Infinity multifan 5's on the grill, with neo magnets spaced out, and configured as an intake and outlet, powered by the on board USB A. When running at high speed they tend to reduce the stability (or maybe prevent reaching working temp at all?) but running them low has really improved my tuning over the hot days and into the cooler autumn. I expect that I might remove them once the cold really hits, but my in-floor heating might still keep things stable - we will see.

At this point my only tuning issues seem to be the random "it's been on too long and decided it's time for you to turn it off" type issue where the tuning goes absolutely atonal, rather than just a bit out of tune.

Board isn't letting me attach a photo of the setup, sorry! Attachment quota rubbish about a 200kb file.

Failed tuning/Auto Cal and OS locking up is what drove me to take mine back and get a polybrute 12. 4 months of anger and heartache was enough for me. This synth has reliability that would make BMW blush.

I'm pretty happy with mine. Polybrute is ugly and heavy. This thing makes me smile whenever I look at it or touch it :)

Yes it has some issues, but they really do seem to be software addressable to me.

Re: tuning during a session: My routine is that I turn on the instrument and wait several minutes, then do a quick tune. Then I wait till its closer to full temp and press quick tune two more times. This in effect makes a three point curve over a range and I don't notice tuning issues after which this is done. The root cause of the variability of the tuning seems to be is that this "quick curve" does not save after turn off. I'm just saying "seems" because I usually need to repeat the process upon the next time I turn it on. I had a similar issue with my OB6 for years (where I basically had to add a curve each session). I do think they will eventually fine-tune this (pardon the pun) whereby this 3-point step is not needed. But if you are having issue after the latest update, give this a whirl. In the meantime, it's not a big deal to me to do 3 spaced button pushes. The rest of the instrument is working fine.

Re: extremes: Opposite of the Australian fellow's warm environment, my basement was pretty cold this winter. I use a space heater to augment the room heat, which I purposely aimed away from the Muse to avoid fluctuations. It seemed to fair ok.
