Subsequent 37 - Noise when press any key [Help]

Post by m0tabh » Thu Apr 04, 2024 10:21 pm

Hi guys,

I noticed that on my sub bass patches, but the problem is in the synth.
Every time i press any key, it makes a white/pinky noise.

My moog noisefloor is between -77db and -79db
(All oscillators/fdb deactivated and volume on zero, volume output on max, cutoff on max 20khz)

If i press any key, it makes a noise (white/pinky) and my noisefloor goes to -42db peak and stays in -60db after some seconds.

The same happens when headphone is used.

What could be this problem? is there a fix for it?

It is the same problem in this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/synthesizers/c ... e_problem/

Hi m0tabh.

Not sure at all about the measured levels but what I know for sure is that analog is kind of noisy: my first guess is that what you hear is the VCA letting the "electronics breath" go. I've observed that on a Little Phatty.
The fact the level peaks at -42dB and gets back to -60dB may be related to the decay and sustain values of the VCA envelope. Try different settings, even for attack, and you might be able to hear the noise reflect the envelope configuration.
Anyone, prove me wrong.

Now, this can be tamed a lot by... increasing sources volume, and, in the case of a sub bass patch, lowering the filter cut off frequency.
Hope this helps.

You are right about VCA leaking and envelope.
But even lowering the filter cut off frequency i can still hear the noise (Sub bass patches)

Now that I can hear it, its difficult to not pay attetion to it.

Knowing that is a VCA leaking, is there any solution?

Well, I don't mean to tell you what's a problem and what's not a problem, but I guess the Moog is made like this and I guess there is no proper solution.
I understand that when you noticed it the first time, it's hard to listen to anything else, but my question is: is it a problem in your music once mixed etc?
Only you have this answer.
