Will a Model D 2022 reissue pitch wheel assembly work on Model D 2016 reissue?

Hi,

I am hoping a Moog technician or informed forum member can help me answer two related questions:

1) Will a Model D 2022 reissue pitch wheel assembly work on Model D 2016 reissue?

2) If so, can I purchase a Model D 2022 reissue pitch wheel assembly from Moog?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Lowboy

Just adding to this thread, as I would also be interested in the answers to these questions. Thanks so much!

Yes. Would LOVE the new LHC and will buy one, if available to us!

Hard to believe no one can answer this question.

Critical thinking suggests the electronics are same, and the main differences are mechanical.

The self-centering pitch wheel is one of the big attractions of the 2022 reissue. Perhaps Moog is worried many people will upgrade their pitch wheel instead of upgrading to the 2022 reissue.

There is some charm to the 2016 reissue pitch wheel, but I would like to have both available to me.

Can someone from Moog respond? Has anyone tried this?

I would think the self centering pitch wheel from a 2022 reissue would work on a 2016 LHC if you could get a part from Moog.

We can't buy replacement parts from Moog?

I never tried, but just assumed we could get some of the hardware such as wheels, keys, knobs, side panels, etc.

Some quick info:

1) Moog does not participate in this forum. They did in the distant past. I have no idea why this changed.

2) Left hand controller electronics in the ‘22 reissues are very different from the ‘16 reissues. The mod wheel Implementation is completely redesigned to enable MIDI transmit/receive. To make space, all componenta in the ‘22 LHC are now surface mount instead of through-hole. The bender circuit is also different, I think, putting out a simple range of voltage that is digitized, calibrated (gain, range, and dead zone) before being reconverted to analog CV.

The dig to ana and ana to dig processing is done on rhe keyboard controller PCB with presumably different firmware than exists on the ‘16 reissues.

It would be nice if Moog would provide parts and an upgrade path. At some point in the life of these units, repairs will be necessary.

I wish they'd publish the schematics. An instrument like this needs to be serviceable on the road. While some circuit boards are the same as their vintage counterparts, there are new analogue boards, including the two that now house the front panel controls, the switching-PSU-noise filter, and the octave buffers. The inputs on top are also on daughterboards.
