Ugh. Once again, the myth that synthesizers are made for imitating sounds is propagated.

My moog can sound like a robot farting. Where is the picture of Johnny 5 with a plug up his ass?

While I don't particularly approve of the concept, as I stated, I don't know if I would consider these amateurish at all.
I don't like the color effects at all, BUT... someone went to decent lengths to imbed the cables in the image by shading them appropriately, and making sure that the light and color on the cable matches the light and color in the room. In the case of the bubble and the dog, the pictures were altered (and altered effectively) to show the effect the patch cable was having on the thing it was plugged into.
If these were amateurish, these efforts would not have been made, let alone made relatively successfully.
All of that being said, synthesizers were invented to create as-yet-unheard sounds, not to be imitative noisemakers (or instrumental emulators, for that matter).

Yes, fair point. But technical effort can never do anything more than gloss over a bad idea. Someone may have spent a bit of time getting the effect right, but the pictures still look stupid.
