When I engage the activate panel my volume shoots way down, and when I engage the presets its very very loud. Is this common? Is it a firmware issue?

Panel mode reverts to using the current positions of the knobs and buttons. (What you see is what you will hear) When I use panel mode, I almost always have to make a few adjustments just to get things at a nice working level.

For example: If the filter cutoff knob is at a low setting you won't hear much and the volume will most likely be low. If the envelope sustain knobs are set to a low setting, again you probably won't have much volume. Same goes for the oscillator levels.
