Synchronizing tape with Grandmother's Clock Out

Post by Switchedonharm » Fri Apr 12, 2019 4:06 pm

This post is for people with experience synching multitrack cassette recorder tracks by "striping" timecode onto a track and then using that track to synchronize overdubs and what not. If you don't know what that means than I doubt you will be very helpful.

I have a tascam 8 track with a sync track built in. I've used it before with a JLCooper sync box to sync midi up and it always works fine but now I'm using DIN clock from a vintage roland drum machine for everything.

If I set my grandmothers clock out to the appropriate ppqn value and record that clock value onto my sync track with my Tascam will I able to use that audio data to synchronize other equipment?

I'm wondering if I can do this without having to buy a DIN synch box since my JLCooper only does MTC DTL or FSK.

I'm probably going to try this out soon myself but I was wondering if any of you might be doing this already and it would be helpful to know what I'm getting into before I start wasting valuable tape trying to find out.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.
