Hi,
I wondered if anyone could offer some assistance with the following problem?

The other day I switched on my Minimoog Model D (1979). I held down a note and turned the Osc3 frequency dial upwards. (Both Osc 1and 2 were also on) Within a couple of seconds the overload light had come on and the osc sound had gone from the normal pitched sound to a hum. The same hum was present irrspective what key was being played. There may have been a faint smell of burning!

I note that there had been a previous topic on this some years back. From the info on this I removed and checked both the DC fuses. They both appear to be intact (I also used a meter on both) However I was unable to remove the AC fuse as the fuse holder did not want to open and I did not want to force it.

I am resigned that it will have to go to the Glasgow Studio Electronics (I got it serviced there before and tyhe guy knows what he is doing) however I wondered if anyone could offer any suggestions as to the root cause and possible remedies? The Moog still powers up but the overkload light is still on as is the hum when you press the key.

One positive out of this is that I have now started to dable with the Model D app on my ipad which is pretty cool!

Hi Stewart-

The Overload Lamp is normally only affected by the external input signal. I assume you have nothing connected to that input jack. I would guess you lost one or more of your power rails. That and not being able to examine the AC fuse I suggest you not power on the synth until it is properly serviced. Good luck.

Thanks for your helpful response. As you state I did not have anything plugged into the input. I will book it in with the specialist engineer who serviced it a couple of years ago. I was able to check the DC fuses as the fuse covers unscrewed without any problem. However I am at a loss as to how to open / access the AC fuse. Initially I thought I had to use a screw driver in the top but did not appear to work!
