I was reading your article on Squarewave, "Kicking it Up a Notch." I have a semi-related question about the Voyager audio outs and my patchbay. I know that putting a dummy plug in the right audio out on the Voyager does something with the filters (I know it's in a recent thread here). Basically, using the left audio out of the Voyager sums both filters to the left channel and using the right one doesn't if I remember correctly?

I run my Voyager to a patchbay mono becuase I have to collect a second set of Moogerfoogers for stereo use. What I'm trying to get clarification on is what happens if I run the right audio out of the Voyager to a patchbay and it is not being used. Will this work like a dummy plug in the right audio out? If so, maybe the patchbay should be left out of the right channel until I have the duplicate MFs?

If I do run the right side to a patchbay, then I could use the MFs to the EXT IN of the Voyager like the diagram in Figure 2 of your article right? Am I missing something?

Finally, (OK this a lot more than one question) in Figure 3 of your article I really like that set up. I am confused about what type of "Y" adapter to get to do this. Should it be a TRS to dual TS "Y" adapter or a TRS to dual TRS "Y" adapter (or something that I have to make instead of buying)? In the figure it looks like the Tip and Ring are seperated which makes me think I have to make a custom plug for this. Any help clearing all of this up would be great.

Correct. If nothing is plugged into the right output, both of the Voyager filters are summed to the left out.

It will work just like having a dummy plug inserted into the right audio out, whether or not that output is used. Keep in mind that the only difference between the left and right outputs (in LP/LP mode) is the Spacing control (the filter offset).

I guess you're refering to Figure 4, where a "Y" adapter splits the output from the insert cable into two outputs. The output from the insert cable is a mono connection, so a simple "Y" adapter is all that's needed.

Note, however, that the "Y" adapter needs to mate with the insert cable's Tip connection. If your insert cable splits the Tip and Ring connections to plugs (male), your "Y" adapter should have jack (female). On the other hand, if your insert cable's Tip connection is a jack (female), then your "Y" adapter should have a plug (male). You might want to get both types of "Y" adapters, simply because experience shows that you can never have too many connection options. Hosa is a good source for the "Y" adapters and insert cable. Check your local music shop for these. You can also make your own cable if you're handy with a soldering iron and have the parts on hand (cable, connectors).

Thanks for answering all of this Greg. I appreciate it. I just got a second Cp-251, a 101 and a 102 to start expanding out the right audio out. I like analoghaze's set up so I'll probably match his. The second 104 is going to be the biggest hurdle, but I'll gte one eventually.

I don't know why this is, but you can find people selling MFs on Ebay for over $100 less than their sale price. Maybe a lot of people don't want to invest the time into unlocking what they can really do, don't have the space, or just prefer the convienence of digital synths. I'd love to have new ones myself, but getting a 101 for $152 is much better for me than $266.
