MiniMoog Serial Numbers

Is there a numbering convention for the old and new MiniMoog serial numbers? I've seen a lot of 1XXXX serials on the older series and my Reissue is 2XXX. Does that mean that the old ones all had a 1 for first revision etc or is it all sequential up to 13,000? Is my 2XXX reissue one of the two thousand XXXX made or is mine in the first thousand of the 2nd issue? I hope that makes sense!

Thanks to any of the MiniMoog/Accountants out there who study those types of numbers!

Anyone correct me, but I think the olders ones are just more out there than the reissues. The numbers on the reissues do not follow, in my opinion.

Moogs from the 1960s/1970s/1980s era started at serial #1001.

New Moogs start at #001

"Revisions" were not indicated in serial numbers.

Does anyone know if the 2022 revision's serial numbers started at zero again, or continued the 2016's numbering?

I just realized that the first post in this thread implicitly answered my question. :D The OP mentioned that theirs reissue was serial no. 2xxx. And since that post was made before 2022, and my 2022 model is no. 9xx, Moog apparently started from scratch again 2022.

Further info... The 2022 reissue started at MD00001. But I have seen some early release 2022 reissues which I assume were prototypes. I saw these in the hands of early influencers. E.g. the early Sweetwater videos are using one of these units without MD in the serial number.

As best I have seen, all normal production 2022 reissues are MDxxxxx and started at 00001.

Some other info...

It seems for the recent years (last 2 decades), Moog restarts the serial number at 00001 for each new model variation. For example, my Matriarch Dark is around 1500, which does not align with the serial numbers of the multi-color units. I saw much higher serials for multi-colored units before I bought my Dark unit.

This is particularly confusing for Voyagers. My Voyager XL is in the 300's, and I have similarly seen serial numbers restart for other Voyager model variations. I am not sure, however, if they restarted for all Voyager variations. They probably combined some variations (like the color customizable ones?). Also, for different wood cabinets, they may have restarted on some, but not others.

There are usually no letter designations for serials, but sometimes there are. My Dark Matriarch is just 015xx (no letters) as is common for most my modern Moog stuff. But my Voyager XL is XL003xx, my 2022 Model D is MDxxxxx, and my Moog One 16 voice is 16xxxx (vs. 8xxxxx for 8 voice).

Interesting! I used to have an early signature edition and I believe they at least restarted the numbering when the next version was launched. Possibly, as you say, with each new version. And there were quite a few! I wonder how many Voyagers were built, in grand total? Not too common in the used market here in Sweden at least.

And just to avoid creating any confusion, I wrote above that my 2022 D reissue serial was 9xx, because that's what it says on the box. But on the synth, the format is indeed MD009xx.

Another example is the Little Phatty Stage Edition, whose serial contains "SE".
