Syncing Korg Minilogue, Mother-32 in Ableton
Syncing Korg Minilogue, Mother-32 in Ableton
This is a very elementary question, but I have been watching tutorials and reading the mother-32 manual but i can't get the Mother-32 Midi light to come on. I want to use the Korg minilogue as a keyboard for the Mother-32, and sync and record in Ableton Live via an Audiobox Usb audio interface. Where do I plug what? Also when I go to set up the hardware in Ableton's midi preferences, "Hardware Configuration" doesn't show up. I'm new to Midi syncing and I would appreciate any help! The more specific and elementary, the better. I love the Mother-32. I've been recording it straight from output into ableton via the interface, but the keyboard on the Mother is a bit tight going from the Minilogue's keyboard. I know it will be an incredible combination if i can just figure out the setup. Thanks for your patience with me and if you know of any related threads that can help, I would be appreciative of that as well. So much to learn. Thanks!

Re: Syncing Korg Minilogue, Mother-32 in Ableton
With Ableton you have a several options for routing MIDI, but here is a basic setup for you:
1. Connect a MIDI cable (5-pin DIN) from the MIDI OUT of your AudioBox to the MIDI connection on your Mother-32.
2. In Ableton's MIDI preferences, make sure "Track" is turned on for your AudioBox's MIDI OUT (you can also turn on "Sync" if you want your Mother-32's sequencer to track Ableton's BPM — "remote" will not work with the Mother-32, so make sure it is off.)
3. Load an "External Instrument" on a new track in Ableton and select your AudioBox for the MIDI OUT and also select whatever input you have for the Mother-32's audio. (Everything should be defaulted to Ch. 1 for the MIDI — if not, use your Mother-32 manual to reset the unit to Ch. 1, or whatever channel you'd prefer to use.)
4. With the track activated, your Mother-32 will now receive all MIDI from Ableton — so, if you have your Korg connected via USB, it should send notes to the Mother-32. (Make sure in Ableton's MIDI preferences, that the Korg's "input" has "Track" activated.)
Alternatively, you can always directly connect your Korg and Mother-32 with the MIDI cable — I believe the Korg will also pass on Ableton's clock, if it is simultaneously connected via USB to your computer and Ableton.
Hope this helps. Once you are successfully sending MIDI to your Mother-32 via Ableton, you can begin trying all sorts of different routing options!
