Hi guys,

So I just purchased the Soundtower patch editor and downloaded all of the patch files (in the .mvr format?) from this site. Unfortunately, there are less patches than I would have hoped for available in the Soundtower editor format. That being said, I'd found tons of other patches and banks of patches via other websites but they're all in sysex format. How can I preview and load these sysex patches into the Soundtower editor?

Or, could I load the sysex files onto the Voyager via a sequencer (e.g. sysex librarian) and then bring those patches over to the Soundtower editor and save them in the Soundtower format (.mvr?) for later use and organization purposes?

Or, can someone point me to more banks/patches that will work with Soundtower's editor?

I never had this issue with my MS2000 patch editor which just sysex files and where I could find a butt load of patches and banks of patches.

Voyager preset banks on the Moog music site are available in two flavors: .syx and .mid. These are the most common and widely used file formats for patches.

The '.syx' file requires you to use a SysEx program to download the bank to the Voyager. The '.mid' file requires you to use a MIDI Sequencer program to download the bank. Neither file type is supported in the Editor software. The Editor uses its own propriatary file scheme. The Editor's file extension (.mvl, mvr, etc.) depends on the type of file you are saving (single preset, bank of presets, librarian files, etc.).

You should load the Voyager preset banks using the appropriate software (SysEx or MIDI Sequencer) then move the files to the Editor. Once they are in the Editor, you can organize and save them any way you like.

You can find hundreds of Voyager presets on the SquareWave site. Nearly all are single patches in .syx format, and will download to the Voyager's Edit buffer, allowing you to audition each patch without overwriting any of your existing patches. This is the best way to quickly preview the patches. Save what you like to the Voyager, and toss the rest. Then transfer everything to the Editor to tweak, organize and save your files.
