What exactly are the differences between the old modules of yesteryear and the foogers?

Now the magazines describe one as "4 synth modules in 1"

I ask this because it appears that they are molded after a guitarists stomp boxes and not really marketed as synth modules persay.


Also, if you get the rack mount kit for the Moogers, can you hook just 1 or 2 into a kit and if you hook 3 together do you have to do away with a side panel or 2?

When you rack them, you do eliminate a couple of side cheeks.

If you go to Squarewave's site you'll see them racked. If doing 2, no ears removed. If doing 3 you remove the sides from the middle one.

In terms of use, not any difference. I use the MF-103 and CP-251 as additions to both my modern modular rig as well as my vintage Korg Semi-modular synths (MS-10, MS-50, etc.).

Yeah, they look like guitar pedals, and they're marketed that way, but don't be fooled, these are really just little chips off the 'ol Moog Modular block.

I use my foogers like a modular synth, and I love them!

they are different because they're designed to easily take inputs of any kind and to be self contained, like a stomp box.

also, the product range of the foogers is different to that of the old modulars, and hasn't reached a point where you can use just the foogers to create a fully functional synth, yet. they're more geared towards effecting external sounds, rather than creating them, but they can make their own sounds, just not as well as an old modular.

everyone has been asking for some time that they release another 1 or 2 cp251 sized boxes with some VCOs and VCAs and maybe some EGs, that have more of a modular feel rather than a stomp box feel,

i hope they do.
