DrJustice wrote:_DemonDan_'s method is not just straight keyboard tracking. The OSC x PCH source is not the same as the KB TRACK source; it changes with the current pitch of the oscillators (affected by all of osc range, pitch wheel, pitch modulations and keyboard), whereas KB TRACK follows only the keyboard, hence it being available as a mod source just for this purpose.
Hi DrJustice,
You are completely correct. (I'm wondering if the
KB TRACK source wasn't initially on the
MOD SOURCE list during the pre-Version 1.0 prototyping phase. The thing that makes me wonder that is that
KB TRACK is at the very end of the list.) But, either way, good call
There are still some times when
OSC 1 PCH may be the better choice as it is a far more powerful source.
KB TRACK isn't even strong enough to completely nullify the permanent 100%-keyboard-tracking-to-pitch connection. It actually takes both
MODS 1+2, each with
KB TRACK as the
SOURCE, with both of the
PITCH AMT knobs turned fully counterclockwise to have OSC 1 and OSC 2
NOT track the keyboard at all, such that all keys produce the same pitch. (This is crucial for the "Life's Been Good To Me So Far" synth trick.)
If Glynbo's question was actually about 100% reversing the Key Tracking of Pitch (like Joe Zawinul of Weather Report used to do to make his synth solos "fresh"), then there's only one way I've found to do this:
You have to turn
OSC 1 Off at the
MIXER and only have
OSC 2 sounding. Then, disconnect OSC 2 from the keyboard by lighting the
DUO MODE button and unlighting both of the
LO and
HI LEDs of
KB CTRL.
With OSC 2 completely disconnected from the keyboard, you'll find that you can now use both of the
MODs with
SOURCE =
KB TRACK, and both
PITCH AMT knobs fully counterclockwise to achieve an "in-tune" upside down scale.
