bummed out, brand new MF Delay doesn't work.

Just got my minifooger MF-Delay and it doesn't light up when I pop in a battery. It will pass audio through but none of the functionality makes any difference to the sound. Is it possible I'm doing something wrong here? I used the 9 volt battery that came with the unit and another brand new duracell from the store, but neither one light up the center diode. Anyone else have this problem?
